Just like to tip my hat to the Eagles.

The Eagles are statistically the most successful club of the AFL era (3 wins, 2 runners up - in front of the Lions 3 wins, 1 runner up, and Cats 2 wins, 4 runners up - Hopefully the Pies can match them this year :) )

Clearly, this attitude shows, and they do not tolerate consistent failure. Richmond, Melbourne, the Dogs, Saints should all look at the Eagles in awe.

Made every single finals series in the 1990s under Malthouse. For two years they rebuild, pick up Chris Judd, and win a flag.

Controversy saw them lose Cousins and later Judd, so again they rebuild, but again not for long. After winning the spoon last year, they are a very strong top 4 chance this year. Outstanding.

Always a soft spot for the Eagles. I question the playing culture (many, many controversial incidents), but can not argue with the clubs record. I like to think Collingwood are starting to match this now.

Eagles have a chance at winning 17 games for the year. Not sure who won the most last year, but it's a vast improvement from 4 in 2010.

Yeah, so West Coast could win as many games as last years premiers.

They're a phenomenal club but I can't like them too much because my allegiance lies with the Dockers... Still, I love the success coming from WA and I love the West Coast list! They're so fun to watch when they're doing well.

I'm not sure how fun they'll be to watch this week while they're giving my side a thumping though... :/

What was I thinking?! Of course we'll win! I'll just go put my savings on the mighty Tigers!
I hope we play our hearts out though.

Winning culture is helped by getting winners at the club and then keeping the winners you create. WCE got stalwarts like Ross Alexander, Glendenning, and John Todd through our club in the early years and then got the stars from that early era involved in the club after that (Sumich, Worsfold have been there another 10 years nearly as coaches). This maintains the winning culture which keep successful clubs like West Coast, Manchester United, and the Australian cricket team always there-abouts, if not dominating.

The Fremantle Football Club is a great example of the opposite. Started with very little success on the books, very little success in the first decade, and that culture continues. They'd do well to employ coaches with recent premiership success on their books, as much as they could use some players with premiership success.

True to say there are more premiership medals/medallists on the Gold Coast Suns playing list than the Dockers' list currently?

not only do they seem to have a great in club winning culture, i personally think they have some of the best fans out there. Even last year they had alot of support and were getting good numbers to the game. From 4 to 17 is a great accomplsihment and with the roos, gone i would love to see either gellong (best winning cultrue in the last 4ish years) or the eagles.
