To be honest it could have been 12 months ban from VFL/AFL or something, to make an example of him. Even that would be lenient in comparison to what has happened in the past when players bet on games.

Don't get me wrong, Shaw deserved his suspension, but to say it was lenient is tough.

Was any of their bets related to their own matches? Just curious as it may have been the reason why it was a tad more harsh ;).

Plus he bet on Maxwell to kick the first goal = inside knowledge bet to favor himself. Probably why the 8 weeks rather than a fine.

I love how non Collingwood supporters put on the blinkers. I know you all hate us but how about some of you try to look at the Heath Shaw and co betting scandal with an open mind. The 8 week suspension is a big punishment. I'm just wondering what sort of punishment did Stokes get last year for buying and probably dealing his cocaine? I believe it was 7 weeks. Now was the Shaw incident worse than that?
