So, only a bit over a month ago, Krejza, Hauritz, Doherty and Smith were all given Cricket Australia contracts.

.... and they select Michael Beer who doesn't have a contract... when no cricket's been played.

Nathan Lyon also uncontracted!!

Who is running this join?

It's typical of the selectors and committee in the ACA. Pattinson and Copeland have deserved their spots however the place is a farce now.

Cicjose

yeah well Krejza ahead of Beer and Lyon and then get another pace bowler in the squad is what i would have done

PowerBug

I am very surprised not to see Steve Smith and Ben Hilfy in the squad. Nathan Lyon is a gun, Beer is no-one. He played in that Ashes match, didn't he?

My team for test 1 against Sri Lanka:

Watson
Hughes
Khawaja
Hussey
Clarke
Ponting
Haddin
Johnson
Lyon
Siddle
Copeland.

Must admit, don't know anything about Lyon.

Just looked at his stats.... geez, doesn't take much to play for Australia anymore.

Guess we could always use the offspin of Katich... oh wait....

:(

PowerBug

The Aussies are really desparate now. Lyon apparently gets really good dip on his offies.

ossie85

At an average of 43 and SR of over 80? Off how many dips?

Cicjose

i think they are picking spinners without proper technique.....

this to me is the real issue

PowerBug

No, he can't play Sheffield Shield. He is a T20 player. But Australia will pick anyone won't they. Maybe i should put my name forward.

ossie85

They also seem to be after instant success! Why not try them out for a while?

oh... and what did Hauritz do all that wrong? Clearly the best performed spinner since Warne's retired.

Yeah, but at least you knew what you were getting, and didn't leak runs like the others

CrowsFan

Really surprised Doherty hasn't been selected. I was reading an article a while back saying he was going to be the only spinner selected for the tour and now not picked at all!

8-6 Suited

True, but he was only a restrictive means whereas from the looks of it, they are looking for another wicket taking spinner.
