About time an article about the great man Pav is written by the biased Melbourne media.  Sadly it took Terry Wallace to do it.

yes well here's hoping premiership captain is added to his resume before his career is out...

I tend to agree.

Matthew Pavlich seems to have been treated so harshly this year despite being in All-Aus form (again), yet Nick Riewoldt's poor form and Jonathan Brown's breaking body is barely focused on.

... Pavlich is one of my favourites, for sure.

And has been :)

2002 - Full Back
2003 - Half Forward
2005 - Centre Half Forward
2006 - Interchange
2007 - Full Forward
2008 - Interchange

Should also mention another rare feat from Pav.  His first 2 kicks in AFL were goals.

Cicjose

maybe next year play him in tandem in the ruck and see if we cant win a flag with Sandi and Pav ruck combo, If we win flag Pav could be up for AA in the ruck too :P

I don't think Pav is underrated, most ackowledge that he is an exceptional player.

I rate him so far ahead of Nick Riewoldt on just about all aspects of his game, not least his leadership. I don't think he is quite in the John Brown mode (with the exception of Carey not many modern players are) but of course what would help his legacy is a bit of team success. Unfortunately, again we refer to "next year" because it won't be in 2011.

Dont write us off.  We only need to win 4 out of 8 games to make finals (although our 4 home games are against WC, Hawks, Carlton and Collingwood).  We start getting the rest of the troops back soon and barring any more injuries should have a full squad to choose from for last 4 games of H&A season leading in to finals.

McPhee, Suban, Barlow all expected to be in the mix for next week
Sandilands should be in the mix for round 19 which would give him 4 - 6 games before finals
Mundy should be in the mix for round 21/22 which would give him 2 - 4 games before finals

Sorry Valk, as a genuine Premiership contender for 2011 I am indeed writing you off.

Premierships are now almost exclusively won from the top 4, Freo will probably shape the 8, are likely to make the 8, but they won't be beating Geelong, Collingwood or Carlton in  September this year -they simply aren't good enough.

We havent been "good enough" all year according to "people in the know" but here we are at #6 on the ladder (with our injury list a freeeekin mile long all year).  We were touted as a top 4 contender at the beginning of the year so having a full strength side available come September we could be a suprise packet.

Although I do feel you are right in that we wont win the title this year (I have always said our window wont open til 2012) - but I will always stay positive :)

Cicjose

i think our window was open last year and would have continued until about 2013/2014 if we had few injuries

I dont think it was last year.  We still have a heap of players still to play 50 games.  You need a core of players in the 50 - 100 game range.  DeBoer and Mayne just played their 50th on the weekend.
