Hey Everyone :)

I put up a poll also, but that is not the main focus point of this thread.

What are everyone thoughts on Football Manager?
How do you compare it to Soccer Manager (SM), or any Fifa game (FIFA 11)?
What consoles do you have it on and which console is better to have it on?
Do you think it is easy to get a STAR team?
How does it actually work?
You don't actually control the players do you? Just do the tactics and squad before and during a match right?
And you can make transfers anytime or in a transfer season?
Is there online experience and is it any good?

Basically I'm looking for a review, not just what you think of it, but also its content.

Thanks, Luigi :)

Football manager is probably the most comprehensive manager game out there. Everything works just like it does in real life, i.e same competitions, league structures, transfer windows etc.
Basically when you start the game you choose which club you want to manage, you can choose to go for a top team already or pick a team in a lower division and try and get them promoted up to the top league. Depending on performances you may get sacked if not meeting club expectations or get job offers at better clubs if doing a good job.
You can choose to run as much of the club as you want or as little as you want, as in you can be in charge of organizing friendlies, player contracts, team talks etc or you can let the assistant manager do them and just focus on buying in players and setting tactics.

Now to answer the questions you asked:
How do you compare it to Soccer Manager (SM), or any Fifa game (FIFA 11)?
Far superior to soccer manager. Player profiles are more in depth so you can look for certain players if lacking pace, height, creativity or basically any skill. Compared to FIFA it is a completely different game, I love them both so is hard to actually compare them due to FM being about tactics whereas FIFA is about playing the game.

What consoles do you have it on and which console is better to have it on?
Have it on PC. Pretty sure that is all it comes on, even if it was on xbox, ps3 it would be better on PC considering you have to use the mouse and keyboard a lot so would be too time consuming on consoles.

Do you think it is easy to get a STAR team?
No it's not easy to buy the star players without paying huge amounts of money for them, and if you are at a lower club you wouldn't have the cash, plus they wouldn't want to play for you anyway. But with good scouting of young players and knowledge of upcoming players you can put together a team that does very well. An example is I took over Fiorentina when they were a mid to lower table team in the Serie A and have led them to 3 league titles in a row plus the CL. Very satisfying when you can do that :)

How does it actually work?
Kinda already answered this, but you take over a club and you are in charge of buying and selling players, setting match tactics, and talking to the press etc.

You don't actually control the players do you? Just do the tactics and squad before and during a match right?
No you don't control the players, but you can tell them how you want them to play.

And you can make transfers anytime or in a transfer season?
There are transfer windows just like in real life. So in the off season and during January (if controlling a team in the European competitions).

Is there online experience and is it any good?
You can join a network game where you manage a club along with others managing clubs in the same league, but I have never tried that myself so can't really comment on it.

Hope this helps you ;)

Ahh ok. Thanks a lot for that CF.

So do you just watch the games happen infront of your face and there you can add in extra instructions?
And is it like 3 minutes halves, or you can change it?
Is there commentating :P ?

yeah you watch them play. its all in 3D animation and you can set what you want to watch ie higlights, goals, entire match (NOT THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO DO THAT :P)
and you can also alternate the speed so that the halves are slower. but generally the timing is close to real time.
and there is basic commentary in a text form

The return

Fifa for me! best game to chill and have great fun with, manager mode is sweet and making your virtual pro to 91 is a great feeling ;)

I got Premier Manager 09 which I think is similar to FM in the basics. It's good although some things were a little iffy for me.

I prefer PES to Fifa for general playing but have never played Football Manager. PES 5 is one of my favourite games ever on PS2 that I've played (As I was addicted to it a few years back :P).
