McIntosh trade talk

roo boys!

On SEN last night they started tossing up the idea of HMac heading to a few different clubs (struggling in the ruck department) and at first I was like "NO NO NO!" because he is such a great player, but when you think about it, Goldy is absolutely dominating, and Pederson/Petrie are good to do about 10% of the game when Goldy needs a rest, and can cover for him if he is injured. Also with Majak Daw and Ben Mabon coming through, who both look like they have some real talent, our ruck stocks look pretty set if you ask me.

We all know that a number of clubs are looking for a number 1 ruckman (Richmond, Bulldogs, Hawthorn etc) and what do you guys think about giving HMac to one of them? I reckon a good running backman could be picked up for him, someone with great speed off the half back line, something that we could really do with. eg a Heath Shaw type.

Trades tossed up were:
Richmond - HMac for Conners? (Delidio would be the dream, but I highly doubt they would give him up)
Bulldogs - HMac for Higgins? (I think the risk on his body would just be too high. Could well play 5 games in any given season)
Hawthorn - HMac for Suckling? (I LOVE this one! Imagine just watching him placing the ball on Petrie's chest 70 metres away 8))

Remember what happened when HMac was consider as possible trade bait in 2008?

I wonder if Glenn Archer's viewpoints have changed since then....

I do like the idea of a possibility of using HMac as trade bait; Goldy is indeed doing well and has enough support.

Though one thing that infuriates me about North Melbourne's trading/drafting strategy, is that we have not recruited a key forward in a long time. 2006 was the last time we drafted any forwards (Lindsay Thomas, Aaron Edwards and Lachy Hansen)

In the 2007 draft, we picked up Robbie Tarrant, Levi Greenwood, Scott Thompson, Blake Grima, Josh Smith, Nathan Grima, Cruize Garlett, Alan Obst, Michael Wundke and James Wilsen. All defence players or midfielders.

In the 2008 draft, we picked up Jack Ziebell, Liam Anthony, Sam Wright, Nathan O'Keefe, Warren Benjamin, Marcus White, Luke Delaney, Ben Speight and Conor Meredith. Again, midfielders and defenders.

In the 2009 draft, we picked up Ben Cunnington, Ryan Bastinac, Aaron Black, Jamie McMillan, Ayden Kennedy, Brayden Norris, Majak Daw and Matthew Scott. Wow, they picked someone else than a midfielder or defender this year...it's still not a key forward.

Lastly, in the 2010 draft (the most recent one), we picked up Shaun Atley, Kieran Harper, Cameron Delaney, Ben Mabon, Cameron Pederson and Aaron Mullett. More midfielders, more defenders and now, more ruckman.

In this time, this is a list of forward players we could have picked up: Jack Darling, Luke Tapscott, Nathan Fyfe, Stewart Crameri, James Podsiadly, David Zaharakis, Taylor Walker and Austin Wonaeamirri (I've probably forgot a few too)

Yes we have Aaron Edwards, Drew Petrie and Linsday Thomas up forward, but they aren't kicking enough goals. For the past few years, we've been struggling to kick enough goals, and it's simply because we are missing a key forward player like Buddy, either Riewoldt, Pav etc. I also can't understand that the only forward player we've picked up in the last 4 years (Ben McKinley) can't even get a game...where's the logic?

If HMac is looking at being traded, we don't need more midfielders, we don't need more defenders. We simply need forward talent.

Though, with North's drafting history, it looks like I can only dream.  :-\

That's my rant for the day.

I reckon it would be good if you traded him.
Goldy has done really well and I think he can take most of the ruck duties on his own, meaning you h=don't really have any need for H-Mac. He is still young enough to be worth something but old enough to be able to let go of him, if you can get any of the players mentioned I say good trade.

I have been a defender of Lachie Hansen for quite a while now when he is being constantly maligned, but there comes a time when the line needs to be drawn in the sand, and enough is enough. We have given him time, patience and chances, over and over again, and he keeps failing to deliver. For a high draft pick, he really isn't doing enough. Pedersen+Petrie looks like a pretty good tall forward combo, with either one occasionally giving Goldy a rest, and with Aaron Edwards another marking target, it looks like Hansen doesn't quite fit in. If we have Petrie, Pederson/Goldy (when resting) and Edwards as marking targets I think all we need is just a bit of star power. One gun forward like Pav or Riewoldt (not them in particular, just in general) and we are pretty set.

Dead right, roo boys.

Maybe the Roos should look at putting Hansen up for trade as well.

Maybe could/should have been done a few years ago. Similar situation to Hale, losing currency every day.

This may be harsh, but I'm glad we got rid of Hale. Oh, he frustrated me.

HMAC for Brian Lake?
Nah, Scotty Thompson does a good job I reckon.  Still, wouldn't exactly be disappointed to have an All-Australian full-back come into the team.

MTTY

HMac for Josh Hill and a draft pick could be a big possibility now.

Windigo

H-Mac to the Tigers would be a very smart move and one I reckon the personnel down at punt road might look into. They'd be a fool not to IMO.

But who FOR? Deledio? Power off! His ours forever!!  :P

roo boys!

No, silly ::)

Delidio + Martin :P

It's really too early to tell who North could potentially trade HMac for.

3 way trade? McIntosh to Carlton for Judd, Hansen to GC for Ablett and then GC can give Carlton someone crappy for someone else crappy so we end up with Judd and Ablett :)

Oh and perhaps Cunnington for Pendles :P

Seriously though, it is too early to make a real educated decision. All speculation.

i said it abit earlier in the season but hmac doesnt seem to fit into the lineup anymore and if a deal could be made i would be happy to see it. However it would have to be something that would be a big benefit to the club as hamish is a great player and is a loyal roo. What om worried about is if they offer him again as trade bait and it fails than he could walk like bradshaw did.

RB i have never been a fan of hansen and im indifferent on edwards and lindsy too inconsistent for my liking.

caveman i get where your coming from but it seems a bit silly to trade out hmac and bring in a forward unless we get a good deal for hamish as i think he could easily play as a forward.

i feel trading for conors is well below hmac's value so from richmond i would only go for martin, lids or voldt. I think it should be more lets see if we can get anyone good as opposed to lets get rid of him and whats the best we can do, as i still feel he has alot of value to the team but probably more value to other teams.
