proud of u Mc always striving for the better and speaking ur mind 8)

some of us have the same names Sid ;) never even crossed my mind to have an alter ego...

i couldnt offer enough time im afraid i could certainly do Saturday day games and the first Sunday game but im working all other games...

tbh i jump on chat only until match stats ( love it m0nty ;) ) opens up as i find chat too distracting negative out of context :-X

pity really bcos chat is a great concept and experience when its filled with "footy talk"

I'll PM my nominees once I've heard back from them that it's ok to nominate them.

There can be no expectation without education and it is our charter to help this become a brighter place.

*Previously banned is a tough area for consideration - I myself have been guilty of transgression, however remorseful I was of that, it did teach me a valuable lesson.
The mods perhaps should have a 'clean sheet' because as you say "Be warned that being a chat mod means that you'd have to dampen down your own behaviour"
- Often my behaviour in chat (being a weekend) can often be 'dampened' by a few coldies during the night games and I guess you should never be behind the wheel of power whislt under the influence - something I could not promise to give up.
During the day games I leave the screen on so I can check player scores as I go in and out of the house doing jobs or playing with the kids. With a young family too it would be selfish of me to put up my hand to sit in on day games as I'm often out as well. (My wife has now put a ban on my lap-top being where the kids can see it without me being there  :-[) < That is probably something I should have been doing anyway as my little mini Eee PC has no parental controls unlike our Toshiba which the kids can use whenever, however because we have a safety net on what they can access.

From my understanding, my nominees don't have the above vices or commitments and have never been banned.

Sure, some will still get through to the keeper but with a couple more umpires we may be able to send 'em walking before the noobs have taken guard. Zero tolerance is not the path either, we need characters. Brian Taylor, Rex Hunt, Bruce, Dennis and other iconic callers all have impact with their match call as they often stretch the bow re 'on footy topic' and it makes for entertaining listening.

On reflection, I agree that the mod need not be a Veteran - rather it should obviously only be someone with a proven demonstrated dedication to the site.

I'll have a think about exactly what that means, maybe I'll just have a few set warning texts that you could give in your mod colour (back on the game please, no spoilers, etc) and the rest of the time you'd be in black as usual.

Agree Roost. It is not so much a matter of the stick, although sometimes necessary, but a issue of culture. One thing is to lead by example, which I think is a reason why any Mod should always be in a special colour. I also think actively steering conversation pre-emptively by setting topics, ideas, etc for people to respond too would be an effective method of building culture as well, all via our own iconic personalities as well.

Some sort of carrot to compliment the stick would be useful. The purple name game is a popular feature and a similar carrot to be handed out would also have a positive effect on the overall behaviour. How this would be implemented would have to be worked out in detail, but I would imagine there would be a set of criteria that the active mod would use to decide who gets it. I would imagine limiting the amount handed out would be best, probably one per match. I would also suggest that it be something other than a coloured name, as it could very well be labelled the "teacher's pet" colour and be far less desirable. Maybe something like getting to come up with an idea for an icon that could be used for a few weeks.

And I can't cause I'm banned :P

I loled very hard at this.

But yeah, I agree. I'll admit, I'm not the most mature of people in chat (or, at all), but some of the stuff that goes down is disgusting. Unneeded personal attacks and such.
