Paul Chapman is an elite thick bodied utility who displays an all round game, he completes my thick midfield extractors with Voss and Riccuito, he is extremely versatile and could easily go to a flank wing or pocket if we were to go quick...

For my 17th pick in the AFL draft, I'm picking one of the best all-rounders ever to play the game...

...Len Fitzgerald.

Len Fitzgerald was a man of immense talent, able to comfortably play out of half-back, half-forward or as a rover. He was a supremely adaptable footballer with lightning reflexes, excellent ball handling skills and, perhaps above all else, an awesome strength which was exhibited both in body on body clashes with opponents as well as when taking seemingly miraculous marks in pack situations.

He started his career at Collingwood (at the age of 15!) in the late 40s, but moved to Sturt (as a player/coach) where his career took of. In 1952 he won every award that was available, including the first of three Magarey Medals. He kept getting better and 1953, he represented South Australia and also made the All-Australian team, a very prestigious honour at the time. After narrowly missing out on a Magarey Medal in '53, he won his second in 1954 and continued to thrive.

But a falling out with the club due to a promised bonus, saw him move to Benalla for three years. In 1959, he reluctantly returned to Sturt, and amazingly won his third Magarey Medal in that same year. Unfortunately, injuries took there toll and he was forced to retire in 1962.

In total, he played a total of 238 senior games and kicked 255 goals. In the late 90s and early 2000s, he was one of the inaugural members in both the AFL and SANFL Halls of Fame. You can certainly see why.

An awesome player and a great fit for my team. c4v3m4n's Titans now look like this.

FB:  Bernie Smith, Jack Regan, Vic Thorp
HB: Ron Clegg, Ted Whitten, Geof Motley
C:  _____, _____, _____
HF:  Dermott Brereton, Royce Hart, Stephen Kernahan
FF:  Bernie Naylor, Austin Robertson Jnr, George Doig
Followers:  Gary Dempsey, Jack Dyer, Len Fitzgerald
I/C:   Jim Stynes, Bernie Quinlan, _____, _____

elephants

Gary "Conan" Ayres.
This steam train will be my back pocket...
187 cm and 100kg this absolute machine was a feared competitor.

Ayres played in five winning grand finals and in the finals was ajudged best on ground twice and therefore being awarded the norm smith medal on two occasions (one of only two players to do so)

269 games and 70 goals see this monster take up my currently bare back pocket position.

FB: -----, Silvagni, Ayres
HB: -----, Collier, Worsfold
C: Crawford, Cousins, Dipper
HF: Lyon, Glendenning, Jesaulenko
FF: McKenna, Brownless, Harvey
