No worries C4. Although I looked and you did only give me 6 points even though it says 13. Cos after round 7 I was on 107.6 points and now on 113.6, so 6 points ;)

...I'll even admit, I had no idea what the Robert Rose Award was before this, hence why I've raised the stakes this week. I'm so confident no-one will get it, that the points have been doubled. Extreme kudos to anyone that gets it right this week....

Remember, to be fair and use your noodle, not Google.

Good luck!

CrowsFan

Well I got the last question wrong ::)

Just went through all the questions to see what I got, and I got a grand total of 4 questions right, plus the bonus question giving me a grand total of 7 points! :-[

hawk_88

I got the last "impossible" question! I knew it because I studied the Bob Rose book in high school.

CrowsFan

Nice job hawk. You just scored more points than me for the round from just 1 question...

Answer: B. St Kilda. They have won 26 medals, compared to North Melbourne on 13; who have the second most wooden spoons.

Answer: Michael Rischitelli.

Question 3. The Brownlow Medal is named after whom?

A. Charles Brownlow     B. Winston Brownlow III   C. Frederick Brownlow Jnr.   D. Jonathan Brownlow

Question 4. What is the name of the medal that is given to the player judged to be best on ground in an AFL Grand Final?

Answer: The Norm Smith Medal.

For a bonus 2 points, which two players won the medal last year?

Answer: For the first time in history, there was two medals handed out last year, due to the draw. Lenny Hayes won the first Norm Smith Medal in the draw and Scott Pendlebury won the second medal.

Medium Questions (worth 2 points)

Question 5. Who is the only coach to win 6 Jock McHale Medals (the medal awarded to the premiership winning coach), including 3 in a row?

A. Norm Smith      B. Ron Barassi       C. Leigh Matthews       D. Kevin Sheedy

Answer: I would have thought the 3-in-a-row would have been a big clue. The answer is Norm Smith. He won the Medal in 1955, 1956, 1957 and in 1959, 1960 and 1964.

Question 6. Who is the only player to win both the AFL Rising Star award and a premiership medal in the same year?

Answer: Joel Selwood. He won the Rising Star Award in 2007, along with a premiership medal with Geelong.

Question 7. In 2006, who became the first and only player to win the Michael Tuck Medal in a losing side?

A. Cameron Mooney      B. Joel Corey      C. Simon Goodwin       D. Bernie Vince

Answer: The Michael Tuck Medal is awarded to the best on ground in the NAB Cup Grand Final. Geelong won the Cup and Simon Goodwin won the medal; becoming the first and only player to win the Michael Tuck Medal.

Hard Questions (worth 3pts)

Question 8. True or False. John Nicholls has won the most John Nicholls Medals.

Answer: This was a trick question. John Nicholls has never won a John Nicholls Medal. He has however, won the most Robert Reynolds Trophies. Carlton's best and fairest Medal changed names in 2003.

So the answer is false.

Question 9. Who was the last player to win both the AFL Goal and Mark of the Year in the same year?

A. Matthew Lloyd     B. Peter Bosustow     C. Tony Modra     D. Michael Mitchell

Answer: Whilst most of you said Tony Modra, he never won it in the same year. The answer is in fact Michael Mitchell, who won both awards in 1990. Peter Bosustow also won both awards in 1981; the first player to do so.

For those wondering, Tony Modra won the Mark of the Year in 1993, 1997 and 2000 and Goal of the Year in 1995.

The Impossible Question (worth 10 points)

Question 10. Who was won the most Robert Rose Awards?  ???

Answer: The Robert Rose award is awarded by the AFL Players Association to the most courageous player in the competition for the year. It's been awarded annually since 1991.

The player that has won it a record 6 times is North Melbourne's Glenn Archer. Sydney's Paul Kelly is second with 5 times. Luke Hodge won the award last year.

CrowsFan

Ah so the trick question was the 5th question I got right. A big whopping 10 points for me!

Just 4 points separate 4th and 7th place!!  :o

Congratulations again to BOOMZ  ::) who has won another week of trivia with 25 points, including Question 10.

hawk_88 also gets an honorable mention for also getting the "Impossible" Question correct. Seems I was wrong.

Come back here Monday for another round of trivia! :D

CrowsFan

Boomz are you sure you don't use google? No one can know this much about football!!

hawk_88

Hmm.... marking of Question 8 is a bit suspect.

It is a matter of whether the name is critical or the award itself.

Under the "trick" logic, you could argue that Matthew Lloyd in fact has scored very few goals at Etihad Stadium yet still holds the record for Telstra Dome....

pyronerd

SHOWERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR forgot to do it this week ::)

Holz

hmm i realised the medal name was changed but in my opinion even though it did change i think he has won the medal the most times. Becasue when people talk about who has been the greatest afl player of all time, or which teams have won the most afl premierships people still bring up players like barry cable.

no big deal but questions like this really annoy me in exams. You know the right answer its more to do with intepretation.
