I have spent a few hrs getting this team together and just wanted some opinions on what people think, cheers

Shaw, Bock, C Cornes, Gram, Malceski, Gilbert, Petterd (Hurley, Strauss)

Bartel, Judd, Tuck, J Selwood, Adcock, Cousins (Rich, Coughlan)

Hill, McIntosh (Vickery, Currie)

Brown, Richo, S Johnson, Lockyer, Al Davey, Higgins, Hentschel (Gumbleton, Ballantyne)

SpeedMeades

Save the fact you don't have Cox I like it.

Lockyer will be hit and miss. Done nothing last year to show he might do a repeat of 07 (different role)

Gilbert is also a risk but you just never know.

Richo and Brown and top end that could get cheaper early in the season (but then again may not)

Also, a few injury question marks over some of them. Malceski, Coughlan, Davey, Higgins, Hentschel

Hippo

i agree with everything your saying!

Lockyer will be hit and miss but for the form he has shown in the past he could be great if he plays heaps in the centre, i thought of it as a centre player who can get pts in the FWD (SC pos.) line as a bonus.

i figured you must have atleast 2 top end players in the FWD line and i had Richo in last yr and he was great, bit of a loyalty pic there and Brown can be as good as anyone but yeah wait and see, fingers crossed.

Coughlan i will have to wait and see how he goes in the NAB if he gets a game, otherwise i will prob put in Dangerfield.

They are reporting that Higgins is in the best shape of his footy career,
Davey should be right, if not i will put in Yarran, and all reports is that Hentschel is going great and has a potential to kick 50+ goals this yr

AS for Malceski ???? hopefully he gets back to his 07 stats

I think i pretty much have the rookies right at this stage before the NAB form is shown.

cheers for your comments

Quote from the Herald Sun

BEN Cousins is unlikely to return to Subiaco Oval for the NAB Cup opening, but another West Australian midfielder is on track for a return.
Tigers assistant coach Brian Royal said it would be a surprise if former West Coast star Cousins, working his way back to full fitness, was included for the February 15 clash with Fremantle at Subiaco.

But Richmond's 2003 best and fairest, 26-year-old Mark Coughlan, who injuries have prevented from playing a home and away game since mid-2006, is a good chance to line up.

"He's going fantastic, he's actually surprised us how well he's going and he's certainly in contention for NAB (Cup round) one," Royal said on Wednesday.

I like your team, it is fairly well balanced.
Solid backline, some genuine guns in the midfield.
I'm keen on Judd having a massive year, being that he is back to peak fitness for the first time in years. Love Selwood. What a hard nut!
I agree Lockyer could be hit or miss but could be the beneficiary of Burns retiring.
Not too excited about Hentschel, Higgins or Coughlin but risks have to be taken to be successful in this caper.
I think Cousins is the biggest risk in your list, there has been so much hype about him that we tend to forget a few key points.
He is 30. He exhibited bad hamstrings late in 06. Hasn't played competitive footy for 2 years.
I think realistically, you would be happy to see Cous play 13-17 games at an average of about 75.
That's probably a big call on my behalf but that where I place him and for the price and risk versus reward, I can't have him.
If this were my list, I'd take a punt on putting Rich in my 22, picking another rookie for the bench and upgrading McIntosh to Cox.
McIntosh is a bit of an unknown quantity after being put up as trade bait.
Hey, we are all master critics aren't we?
You have a good list and I wish you luck for 09.

dids

You're relying on two of Gilbert/Petterd/Hurley/Strauss to play each week which could be a problem.
Also (IMO) Taylor Walker will play round 1, Hentschel won't.
Otherwise it's a good looking team.

XztatiK

Swap some gun mids for some rookies. eg. Judd for Dangerfield, and use the cash to upgrade one of the dud defenders mentioned by dids.

That's a start anyway.

You need more rookie mids.

Hippo

I have taken into consideration on what was said and changed my team around a little! Look better???

Shaw, Bock, C Cornes, Lake, Malceski, Hargrave, Petterd (Hurley, Petrenko)

Bartel, Judd, Tuck, J Selwood, Cousins, Rich (Ziebell, Coughlan)

Hill, Cox (Vickery, Currie)

Reiwoldt, Richo, S Johnson, Headland, Al Davey, Higgins, Yarranl (Gumbleton, Ballantyne)

Heater

Will Ziebell play?  Laidley is not a big fan of trying kids...

You have spent a heap of $ on your rucks.  Cox is a no-brainer but having Hill next to him ties up a heap of cash.  Why not try Wood from Collingwood and then free up some cash to upgrade a very inconsistent Headland.

I think you are on the right track though....

Hippo

Since all the prices have changed so has my team so here is what i have come up with.
The biggest change is my FWD line and have now gone with running mids in that area as they do seem more consistant than a gun FWD who kicks a bag every second week

Shaw, Bock, C Cornes, Hargrave, Adcock, Malceski, Hurley (Strauss, Davenport)

Bartel, Judd, Selwood, Kerr, Coughlan, Rich (Dangerfield, Swift)

Cox, McIntoch (Vickery, Currie)

Harvey, Goodes, Deledio, S Johnson, Lucas, Hentschel, Yarran (Gumby, Walker)

Biggie

Take Goodes out, put Pav in and thats a great side I reckon.

Hawks_1976

Yep that good side.
I hope the likes of Cogs, Lucas and Henschel work out.
We are all in a position where we need someone new, cheap or coming back from injury to burn it up.
I think Swallow or Haselby is a little safer option than Cogs.
I think one power forward is needed, a Roo or Pav.
But its a great list, well done.

Fatty

I hope you're wrong about Cogs Hawks. Not too sure about Swallow. I reckon if Cogs stays on the track he'll be hungrier than me after eating my new diet meals that the missus has started serving up.

Hawks_1976

Fatty, your a classic.
Agreed that Cogs will be hungrier than a fat kid in a candy shop!!
I think two years out of the system hurts and that may become a harsh reality to tigers fans who think Cogs and Cuz can just come in and drive them into the finals. But I do wish them luck.
As for Swallow, at his best he is a regular Roo 22, no doubt about it.
