Looks like he will play WAFL next weekend.

QuoteBut Dockers coach Mark Harvey has revealed Barlow is likely to play for his WAFL club Peel in the Foundation Day round on June 4.

Cicjose

so if he plays well in all wafl matches we may see him back sometime between a fortnight to a month?????

Harvey has been conservative so still likely 3 - 4 weeks

valkorum

I would take a guess at still a month away.  I would rather err on the side of caution about bringing him back.  I would rather see him play for the next 10 years (ok prob 8 :P) than play a few weeks earlier this year.

Cicjose

so you reckon at this stage his season is a right off?

valkorum

I wouldnt say that.  I think he may play round 14 or 15 then have a week off with our bye then play out the rest of the year.

So he could be a perfect player to trade to come finals with his price drop that is likely to happen initially.

It was just a discussion point from the other side of the country but I heard an interesting Robert Shaw and Dermott Brereton conversation on radio basically conceeding that the season it most likely to be a write-off for him. They were saying that after such an injury for a midfielder it would take 4-6 weeks of WAFL to get match fitness alone and touch was difficult to forecast.

I think the view was that he may get back into the AFL side this year in some limited capacity but would not be up for finals intensity and that the real upside to the team would be after a full pre-season and total confidence in the injury.

So easy to talk about all this typing at a computer hey, what these guys actually go through to get right is very intense.

An article on the AFL (which I just posted in a new thread) has Harvey saying that Barlow could play 3 or 4 or 5 weeks in the WAFL.

Quote"He's going to need at least three or four or five weeks (in the WAFL)," the coach said.

"We'll be able to tell by the way he's playing as to how long that either takes for him to get back in the team, or whether we need to play him longer at WAFL level.

So that is basically saying the same thing as what Dermy and Shaw were talking about.

Barlow will be talking to media today.  Video will be up on Freo website later this afternoon (Perth time :P)

Wes Mantooth

if he does come back, how will it effect everyone's new freo premiums in munday and fyfe?!

valkorum

I don't think it will affect Mundy as he was scoring solid when Barlow was in last year.

I am not sure about how it will affect Fyfe.
