Hey guys, first up, thanks to all who run and contribute to the forum.  Its great to see it's possible to have a community like this with a relatively low level of spam and trolling.  Keep it going everyone  ;)

I dont usually ask for advice but thought I'd throw this out to those of you who have a little more experience than me.

I was ranked 91 last week and about 350 points off top spot.  Last week I bombed and only scrapped together a score of 1968 for my worst week so far.  I now sit at position 323 and am about 545 points off top spot with 15 trades left and and hamstrung-Watson.   :-\

I'm also in a league for small money, and have come to a turning point -

Do I continue to to go for OVERALL? - or now just focus on winning my league?

So.....

Is going for OVERALL after round 8 when you are 500+ points off top spot unrealistic?

I know its early in the season, and a lot depends on your uniques, captains, timing and LUCK - especially this year - but what do you think is a realistic amount to trail top spot THIS YEAR before you switch from OVERALL, to trying to win your LEAGUE?

IMO, it seemed more important than ever this year to have got your initial selections right, due to the high number of prem's in everyone's teams.

Looking at last years winner BlueThunder it seems he never really lost too much ground after making it into the top 250.

SO.......

Given the amount of cashcows about to breakout in the next few weeks -

THIS WEEK - i smith, puopolo, siposs
NEXT WEEK - lynch, jacobs
PLUS mzungu in 3-4 weeks
then Pederson when the kangas bomb and focus on new blood.

-most people are looking at 3-5 downgrades in the next 2-4 weeks.

SO.....

I assume a lot of people (not all), are at a turning point for the season - to either
1.  Upgrade and stay with the pack for OVERALL - OR
2.  Downgrade to new rookies, cash-up, and THEN upgrade in a few weeks - OR
3.  Combination of 1 & 2
4.  Save trades for a league win (most of us are in this basket I assume)
(A select few of us are sitting pretty and can choose to save trades AND go for overall)

Then throw Watson's hammy into the mix and a lot of us are flipping coins how to go forward.

So what are you doing?

Is this a turning point for your season?  Are you trading hard in the next 2-3 weeks?  Are you still going for top spot?  How far is too far from top spot?

For those of you who are interested this is my sitch.

- Do I -

1.  Give up on OVERALL and go for league - Downgrade 2 this week, then downgrade 2 next week + hold Watson?  (Leaving heaps of cash for 2 upgrades in 3 weeks?) - OR

2.  Go for OVERALL and stay in touch - Downgrade 1 this week, and sideways trade Watson for Pendles/Priddis/Selwood, then downgrade 2 next week?

3.  A MIX - Keep Watson, & Upgrade 1 and Downgrade 1 this week and next week.  Try and pick up 3-4 cash cows over next 4 weeks.

My team seems a little vanilla atm IMO, spewing I missed the boat on Fyfe, Bob and Suckling.  Am feeling 500+ is too far off with the team I have.

Cheers guys,  l8r.    8)

last week hurt :( that said i think u can still keep a foot in both...

Watson will have to go eventually even if ur going for league so ship him out now to someone who has a tasty run home ;)

if u fall further next week u could settle ur trades down then :-\

Never give up on overall, unless you have serious $$$ in league!

Why?

$50,000!

Anything else you wanna know?

Yeah not sure about Watson.  With only 15 trades left am considering keeping him there and using the trade elsewhere.... that might be worth more points by the end of season, and then to swap him for a benchy in rnd 24.  Bit of a risk if I'm going for league I know.

Option 3 might work well.  With $168k in the bank I could downgrade Matera to Smith/Sippos, then upgrade Harris to Priddis, that way i've got cover for Watson.

That said, doing this I would miss out on Puopolo, whose JS just got a lot better this week with the Hawks backline taking another hit.

Anyone have any news on Popo's 'limping' towards the end of his game against the Saints?  Surely he'll be right for this week.

OK, I'll keep the other thread, but reply here to tell me it's OK to lock this one, asap pls.

Option 2.

Go overall. Now can I close this copy of your thread?

This copy has the pic of my team to comment on, which is kinda the point.  I would prefer you moved this one back to the other thread.  Sry for being a pain, I put a bit of time into this post, and altered the other so people can switch to this if they want to comment on my team after answering the questions in the other.
