need to downgrade defender this week so i can the cash to get midfield covered with planned keeper...but also need MPP in defence so I can swap Godd back into backline for the rest of year.

so downgrade to...poo or hibb this week....

if poo, then must gamble on downgrading to Jacobs next week to give me my MPP

OR

Hibb this week for MPP, and then miss out on Puop 1'st week price rise - get him after wk 3 (if at all)- or get Jacobs anyway..

downgrade this weeks gives me mundy, downgrade next week gives me swan - and locked midfield....but need MPP in one of those downgrade trades...

so - hibberd or jacobs - which MPP is the question......hibb means  lost value for Puopolo (if at all then) - jacobs means I can get the Poo cheap....

hope this makes some sense ??

thoughts????

Based on what Fenno ? An interview with Primus yesterday had him state that he would "likely give Jacobs a second game"...I understand the kid is talented , but so is Hibberd and that was hardly a ringing endorsement from Mattress.

Fenno

Well Hibberd is in a team that will be pushing for top 4 so they will be playing their best 22 as much as they can and Hibberd is only a fringe best 22. Jacobs would have played round 1 if he was fit so most likely is in that best 22. Even if jacobs was only fringe best 22 like Hbberd Port are so poor this year that they have to get games into the younger players. Jacobs has freakish ball winning abilities that will see him notch up quite a nice average and average higher than hibberd.

Fenno, You're correct in regards to Hibberd being a fringe player at Essendon, however Mark Robbo had a very interesting quote in the tackle (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/tackle) this week in regards to Didaks form which could apply to this situation as well. He said "Victories carry below-par performers, but losing means they are generally made scapegoats." The point that I'm trying to make here is that now as we speak Hibberd is in the best 22 at the moment. If he has a couple of sub par performances for the Bombers, but they are still winning, there's a better chance that he will keep his spot, because usually winning teams dont like to mess with a winning formula. On the other hand with Jacob's, if he has a couple of sub-par performances and Port keep's loosing he may lose his spot to another young player so he can "find confidence" in the SANFL.

Just an observation and an opinion....

I think that only applies to proven players in a team.  Fringe players will always be turned over if improvement is not seen, or there is no one to take their place.

Hibberd doesn't have very good job security. He only played last week because of a late withdrawal. Jacobs has way better job security, and will probably score better.

+1 And it took 2 players to be omitted with whatever before he got a run in that game also.

But picking Port Adelaide players? That team seems toxic at the moment.

If Hibberd is selected this week, I think I'll go with him. He's a more mature player, and was selected for a reason. Injuries/Suspensions at Essendon could help the next few weeks, and hopefully he gets some consistency.

I don't buy into the new players struggle at great clubs argument all that well, what with Selwood, Rioli and Blair all with premierships in their first years!

bundyboy

if he is named, I'm tempted with hibb....he was definately "flavour of the month" before the season....

jacobs - I can't help looking back to last weeks game, and he didn't look much to me...will be interested if he is named again..
and yes - in a crappy team - so guess his JS might be better than hibberd...

umm.....might be a last minute choice at this stage - can't find a clear winner yet...

Grazz

I think Jacobs is better than what he showed last week. Time will tell.
give him another week to show what he can do then decide on him or not.

FLOPITOUT1

Not a fan of Jacobs. Puopolo looks pretty good, from what i hear from the Hawks members they need him. Hibberds job security surely has been boosted by Watson and Hocking out for 2-3. :-\ . I will probably go Puopolo

Wraygun

Wouldnt say Jacobs has better JS, Cam O'Shea to come back for power (rookie def) not sure were they played Jacobs most of the game though. Its a 50/50 call for the Jacobs/Hibberd so go for the cheeper option hibberd.
