R. Murphy over Shaw, Enright and Rawlings?!

Okay, hear me out, this is for league only, and my reason for going with him is his consistency (only one score above 100 but only one below 80), his price being pretty good for an almost 85 avg, and the fact that his bye comes in Rd. 20 when I'm facing one of the bottom teams in my league. Enright/Rawlings have a bye during the finals which puts me off, and Enright has been in-consistent so far this year. Shaw I'm pretty keen on too, but I was thinking of bringing him in next after his second bye (my opponent in Rd. 13 is pretty good, so it might hurt me a bit having him out).

However, my question is, even if having Shaw out for a Round might hurt me, is it worth paying a bit more for him and his possibly higher scores? Is Suckling an option?

Help me out before lockout, as I need to make the trade this week, and I'm getting Boyd/Swan next week.

Current backline is: Gibbs, Goddard, Adcock, Deledio, Grimes, Heppell, Smith (Toy, Lower, Otten).

Appreciate the help guys, cheers.

Edit: Forgot to mention, is Jacobs good enough to get in and play as a replacement for Grimes? Was planning to just wait and see how he goes and downgrade to him before his third match, but Windigo seems very keen on him :P

R. Murphy will miss games due to injury! You know he will. Get Shaw this week, Rawlings a good 2nd choice or Enright next week, best bets for sure. Suckling is an option but I didn't have the confidence at this stage. Lock in Jacobs if you can't decide as you should have a DEF/MID in midfield to swap him around with.

inj risk yes ... also put meow meow into search, he had some insightful comments re Murphy and Bulldogs back set-up with Hargrave, Gilbee and others (Lake at some stage) coming back and him getting put back into the forward line and may become inconsistent not playing the run the ball out of defence gig that he's been doing ... sorry, long-winded - go find meow meow's post ...

Thanks mate will do. Another reasons I wasn't keen on Shaw was the fact I rode the rollercoaster with him last season, but looking at his form at the moment I guess even if he is out for one game, he will probably make up for that in my other matches. Plus my opponent next week has him and if he has a blinder, it'll definitely hurt :P

Shaw it is...

Andrew

Find it for me :P I don't think anything will convince me mate he only averages 75-85 when he does string games together anyway.

Ryan Hargrave is the main reason. He played VFL this week, so his inclusion is imminent. He is the designated kicker out of defense, and has been for a couple of years since all the attention goes to Gilbee.

Easton Wood is only a couple of weeks away from returning. He will be the new Harbrow, the designated runner out of defense. The role which Murphy is currently playing.

Higgins is back this week, meaning Gilbee might return to the backline.

This means there will be less dependance on Murphy to be the rebounding defender. They will share the load, and the score.

His most valuable position to the team is across half forward, where he is prone to inconsistent scoring, and added risk of injury. But it is impossible to ignore, he HAS TO be played there at times or else the whole team fails.

He will drop his average by 15ppg due to the inclusions of the others into the backline. He will get some jobs purely as a shutdown defender some weeks. Prepare for some 60's mixed in with 90's from now on.

Was at the top of the list when I did an advanced search, cheers J959. Logic seems quite good, and I as a consequence I've gone the (somewhat) safer option and got Shaw. Might make it a bit harder to straight swap in Swan/Boyd for Curnow/Swallow, but I should still be okay, providing Swallow does decent and Swan/Boyd have average games.

Cheers guys (would have mulled over it more, but decisions had to be made!).

I bet you are extremely happy to get Shaw in this week with a 124 :)

Everyone who got him in would be extremely happy... easy fixtures coming up and no DT finals bye. I've got a feeling he's an MCG specialist. Maybe enjoys getting free in the wide expanses of the ground. I was not going to hop on the rollercoaster but if he is an MCG specialist, then he should be sweet as we all know where Collingwood get most of their games!

Yep, I definitely am cheers! Things worked out well for me with Swallow scoring big and raising his price a bit, plus Boyd and Swan scored low enough that their price has fallen quite nicely...
