Thought this might interest people. He could be a great downgrade target for Stanley/Toy before their round 9 bye.

Also the news about Pederson and Gamble could interest some.

Puopolo set for Hawthorn debut

HAWTHORN rested three likely inclusions for Friday night's important match against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium with its VFL affiliate Box Hill feeling the pinch after a 47-point hiding to the Werribee Tigers yesterday.

Brendan Whitecross and Tom Murphy joined mature-age recruit Paul Puopolo, who appears set to make his AFL debut, on the sidelines yesterday.

Hawthorn is looking for replacements for the injured Cameron Bruce and perhaps Cyril Rioli, who may be rested for at least another week with hamstring soreness.

Hawks development coach Damian Carroll, also the Box Hill coach, said Hawthorn had made a deliberate decision to leave those players out with a five-day break between matches.

''Puopolo and Whitecross and Murphy will be in consideration for this week along with a few of those boys that played today,'' Carroll said.

''I suppose the hard thing is the five-day break to Port Adelaide.

''We certainly don't want to take anything away from Werribee because they had a few out from a North point of view. Hawthorn had to look at who's a chance to play this week,'' he said.

Werribee continued its brilliant season under new coach Paul Satterley yesterday, opening up a six-goal lead at the main break.

Early on it was North's Ben McKinley who fired with five first-half goals before finishing with six for the match.

He had 17 disposals and six marks.

''I thought he was really important for us up there. He presented and gives us a good target and finished off with some accurate kicking,'' Satterley said.

Cam Pederson was the true all-rounder. He starred in defence, then in the ruck and finished up forward.

Will Martinello (32 touches) and Michael Rockefeller (31 disposals) were relentless in the midfield.

Skipper Dom Gleeson and Rob Castello were again brave in the clinches and had a new lease of life with some talented youngsters around them in the 20.10 (130) to 11.17 (83) win.

Satterley has unearthed a match-winning line-up with Werribee signalling that it is the most improved team in the competition.

''We've changed our running patterns and we've changed our structures around the stoppages so there's been a bit of a turn around. But our learnings are that last week that we didn't come with the right mindset to put real pressure on the opposition and today we did and that's got to be the benchmark with us,'' Satterley said.

Meanwhile, the Western Bulldogs believe talented youngster Zephaniah Skinner has improved rapidly after a brilliant performance up forward in Williamstown's 52-point win against the Coburg Tigers at Coburg City Oval yesterday. Ben Jolley and Mitch Hahn, with four goals, were the best for the Seagulls.

And St Kilda's Ryan Gamble snared six goals and Raph Clarke was best on ground in Sandringham's impressive 31-point win over Geelong at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.

nice if pederson plays.still don`t understand him being dropped after such a great first game being thrown into the deep end like he was.
good if puopolo plays a few games nice downgrade target.

+1 - pups could get a game against Port - he is from S.A. and has probably played on/against a few of them in the SANFL.

hardnut

Pups is a list depth player so likely to be in and out and the best of times. Jacobs will be given a good run at it once his fitness base is back and is the future of a club in terrible condition. I know which one I'll be on.

Memphistopheles

Stanley or Toy ---> Puopolo for me in a couple of weeks when he is on the cusp and just before the GC bye.
