holz who is majak daw?have you seen him play at all? Not being smart arse or anything just curious.

not 100% on facts. but majak is a sudanese fella, who is embracing the AFL game. The AFL flew his family and few friends over to watch him play in the NAB cup, the kid is a gun...will be a gun, the only reason why he isnt playing, according to JB is because he doesnt know the rules properly. He can kick, run, bounce, dodge and score goals. He will be an amazing DT pick up imo.
North are being smart about it because they wont bring him in the game until he is tactically smart about the game (unlike GC with K.Hunt)...
Majak will be a game breaker and a supersub - Ive seen him play in highlights and a few games.

Fenno

Was that another stab against K. Hunt? why do people think he is crap? just because he is no good at DT doesn't make him crap he is playing as a defender and if you take a look at a game he is doing far far better than I expected. There has only been 1 game that the player he is playing on has kicked goals at all and that was Jurrah who kicked 3. What other defender in the competition has only had 3 goals kicked against them this season? Especialy as he plays for the Gold Coast who untill this weekend lost by an average of 90 odd pts. this is an awesome effort.

No. i was not 'hunt'ing at him. I think he is an excellent defender, e.g. look at his game against WDOGS when he was on grant. was kept to 0 goals aswell as minimal possessions. Im just going by what bluey said that went something along the lines of 'he is still developing the game tactically, and time will come for him to be a great defender' and i agree with this. Im just saying that at this time he is not a great player tactically...it will take time, just like anyone who is new to the game.
By all means, dont take my post as a 'hit' at K.Hunt as being a terrible defender, if he wasnt good enough to be playing AFL then im sure that the GC are smart enough not to play him, he is obviously there for a reason and he is doing his job.

Hunt is rubbish. He wouldn't even come close to being in the best 22 at any club, other than the GC. By the time the GC rookies have matured and they have developed into a competitive, top 8 contending team, Hunt will be back in the NRL. Same thing will happen with Folau.

that sums it up perfectly look pretty good in the NAB and some of the highlights i have seen in the VFL, would make play of game in AFL matches.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUCzN1o2qGM&feature=relmfu    here is a tast of what he can do, obviously it wasnt an AFL game but for a ruck with very limitted football experience im impressed, it reminds me a little of boomer point of the year last year (except he actually closed).

Yes he might go back to NRL... but he is doing his job, just cause he isnt scoring tons in DT doesnt mean he isnt playing well, it will take time is what im saying. Look at presti from pies he was lowest DTer but did the job.

Hampson v Hunt
69 dt points (Hunts 1st game, had 5 disposals and 2 tackles)

Grant v Hunt
38 (Goal-less) Hunt 10 disposals and 2 tackles

Jurrah v Hunt
72 dt (2 marks, 9 touches, 2 tackles)

Hitcock v Hunt
67 dt (goal-less) hunt 7 touches 2 marks.

Hunt seems to be doing pretty well so far, based on his team being beaten by 90+ points per game.

I think if he didnt deserve a spot in the GC 21 they wouldnt give him one.

His DT scores have nothing to do with how I rate him. I actually believe DT scores are a very ineffective way of measuring a players performance and influence on the contest. My assessment of him is based on what I've seen. I've watched 3 out of 4 of the GC games (missed the Port game on the weekend) and from what I've seen Hunt lacks the fitness, skill and football knowledge required to play at AFL level. You say that these things will develop with time (and they will) but there are plenty of young players coming through the junior ranks (and at the GC), who don't need as much time to develop, who Hunt will be competing with for a place in the side. His fitness will take time to change especially since he is coming from a predominately anaerobic, power based sport in Rugby, and his skills will improve with training, but his football knowledge (awareness, positioning, decision making, etc - probably the most important aspects of AFL) is extremely poor, and given that he has only been playing for a short amount of time, it will likely take a few years to develop to AFL level, at which point there the younger players will have matured and will be outplaying him.

Out of the players you listed, the highest quality opponent he faced in my opinion was Jurrah, who kicked 3 goals (in 3 qtrs) and clearly outplayed him. Hampson is a below average ruckman, Hitchcock is half Hunt's size and Grant is a young, inconsistent player. Yes Hunt appears to be doing pretty well, but it's against some relatively poor competition.

I never said he didn't deserve a spot in the GC 21 (he's probably actually in GCs best 21 at the moment) but if you read my original post, by the time they are a top 8 contending team he won't be in the team. Even if he doesn't deserve his spot, the GC pretty much have to play him given the amount of money they paid for him.

I wouldn't like to have the ball with hunt breathing down my neck. He would kill me!  :P
