McPharlin as in Luke McPharlin? A Grader? Can't agree with you on that Valk. He is a B Grade defender at most. Yes he is a good player but not up to the standard of A grade defenders.

Name other CHB's that are better?

Adelaide - Davis (no - will be an a grader)
Brisbane - Staker/Goose (no)
Carlton - Thornton/Watson (no)
Collingwood - Reid (Equal)
Essendon - Hooker (no)
Geelong - Taylor (yes)
Gold Coast - Bock (no - never rated him)
Hawks - Gibson/Gilham (no)
Melbourne - Who is the CHB?  Frawley normally plays FB and I rate him.
Roos - Firrito/Grima (no)
Port - Chaplin/Carlisle (no)
Richmond - Astbury/Maguane (no)
Saints - Gilbert/Fisher (normally yes - not this year)
Sydney - Dont really have a key CHB as they have a few guys at 190ish rotating through there
Eagles - Brown/Schofield/Mackenzie (no, no, no)
Bulldogs - Lake/Morris (Lake last year = yes, Morris equal)

McPharlin has only had 5 goals kicked against him in 5 games

Round 1 - Brown = 3 (although he did rotate with Grover)
Round 2 - Jpod = 1
Round 3 - Tippett = 0
Round 4 - Hansen = 1
Round 5 - Hall = 0

Hasn't played on alot of quality opposition then...

Brown - Legend. Kicked 3 goals until McPharlin kneed him in the face... start of q3 from memory
Pods - What a spud, has only ever worried opposition teams at Skilled Stadium.  (Played at Subi)
Tippett - Rate him, but he's extremely sporadic imo, not helped by a team that is seriously underperforming.
Hansen - 40odd career goals.. not exactly a menacing CHF
Hall - 34 years old, clearly injured and should not have played.

Have to agree with MC on that point.

Also, you can't said Reid is a dedicated Collingwood CHB. It depends on the opponents line but you will find that the majority of the time you will have Tarrant matched up on them whilst Reid plays back.

Hmmm, the McPharlin argument is interesting. CHB position is hard one to define someways. I haven't seen enough proof to call him an A-grader though, not to say he isn't, but I rarely see Freo games.

I reckon Rivers is Melbourne's CHB

Collingwoods setup of Reid/Tarrant is similar to how Freo have theirs setup with Grover/McPharlin.  Both can play at CHB/FB and rotate quite often during the game.

I would argue that these 2 pairings, along with Scarlett/Taylor are the strongest KPB setups in the comp.

Pods is no spud. I'd rather have him than Brown any day ;D

That's actually a really tricky topic to have an opinion on.. With Cloke/Dawes we probably don't need a B-grade restricted forward, whereas Brown has been fairly influential moving all over the ground, playing ruck/forward/back. Has a big engine, and more importantly, a big body that he can throw around to our advantage :)
He's done his job for us, as I guess pods has for the cats, both players secured for peanuts.

Tarrant has turned into a good defender for the MAgpies

Thanks Fremantle/Mark Harvey

He didnt turn in to a good defender for the Pies - he was a great defender that you traded for.  If it wasnt for injuries last season Tarrant was on track to be an All-Aus

Oh is that where he went Valk?

Have you heard the story of two brothers? One went to sea as a sailor, one went to Fremantle. Neither were heard from again.

I just knew that someone was going to claim that the Pies turned Taz in to a good defender.  Credit where the credit is due

We have to thank Freo for much more than that - you also provided us with All Australian Players like James Clement and Paul Medhurst just to begin with. So who have you got for us next - Fyfe, perhaps Hill? They could be good players in a team like ours.  ;)

valkorum

To be fair... both Clement and Medhurst were crabs at Freo.  Maybe that was to do with our shower administration and football department back then (I am looking at you Schwab/Connolly)  Funny to see how Melbourne are going with the same setup ;)

Keep your hands off Fyfe/Hill.  They are both WA boys and will stay at home.

Over the past few years I have seen recruiting to play an extremely important role, however I think it depends on the coaches, fellow team members and game style. Example: Glynny for Hawks, now doing 110% better in his role at Syd. When a player receives feedback it determines how well he will play for any given club.
