Are you kidding me? Not in this case... They both suck.

4 games is hardly something to judge guys that have averaged 80's for 2 years running on...

Quote fail? :P

by the midseason break there will be threads about bringing him in yada yada...

im not quoting that massive thing just to illustrate a small point

Hang on!

I have not been paying much attention to Broughton's scores week by week. I was just going on what people were saying...

79   61   56   55.

They are not that bad. I was expecting 40's. For the money you paid for him you would pissed, rightly so. But if I had him I would definitely KEEP HIM.

I'm seeing a pattern though, can you see it.. :P

Fair point, but you can edit the quotes just to highlight the information you want (as I have done). It was just when I read your post I was a bit confused until I realised you were quoting Q.

I've got Broughts but may as well keep him now :). He's had to play deeper back due to some injuries. But he should return to his Half Back Flank role soon..... or I can hope :P.

*Peace Out Pplz.

Master Q

Marcz those scores have been enough for me. And they've got a bye next round...

Footy God

Silvangi back in two weeks (perhaps after the bye). Broughton will then be freed up. Too many people thinking short term.

Broughton is more of a SC player IMO.

i dont agree... if you looked at his average in the past 2 seasons you wouldnt agree with your comment either.

For his starting price, you'd want him to average at least 80. How can 3 scores 20 points below that average not be THAT bad..?

Sell Broughton. Sell Duffield. The downgrade is on with Toy and look for an upgrade soon. So many other defenders to pick from that it's more than likely your final 7 defenders will all be better than either, come seasons' end. Sounds like most haven't hopped off a premium yet just for underperformance, so if it's your only 1 for the season, I think it's a fair enough one, if not a necessary one with such a good downgrade option in Toy available.

Also worth pointing out, Freo's run home from round 19:

Hawthorn (home)
St.Kilda (away)
Carlton (home)
North Melbourne (away)
Collingwood (home)
Bulldogs (away)

I can't see myself being too comfortable with any Freo players in that period.

I agree with part of your post - usually trading out a healthy premium is an absolutely sin, but if a premium is severely underperforming AND you do not believe that they are capable of turning their form around, than trading them is acceptable. Personally I think Broughton can turn his form around so I will be holding on to him and hoping that he can do enough to justify holding onto him as my 7th back.

Also just to point out that the teams you named in Freo's run home - against these teams the ball is likely to be in Freo's back half more than in it's forward half, meaning more ball for Broughton and Duffield. Plus Broughton's averages against these teams:

Hawthorn - 91.7
St.Kilda - 88
Carlton - 89
North Melbourne - 77
Collingwood - 98.5
Bulldogs - 94.5

If he can return to last seasons form, that's actually a pretty nice run based on the averages.

I pretty much held Duffield because he's averaged about 100 in his past 3 games v North (from the past 2 years). Sure enough, he scores half that. Football is such a rapidly changing game, with changing roles for players, that I don't take into account previous scores v particular opposition much at all. Each to their own, however. If Broughton pulls those kind of scores come seasons' end, let me know about it. But I'd happily bet against it happening right now.

If he's pumping out those scores at seasons end I'll be absolutely rapt, however like you I don't see it happening. I do however, believe he can be scoring around 80+ around this time of year which is what I'd be expecting out of my 7th back. Each to their own though.
