Since the trade talk of Broughton has come up i've stuck to my guns and said "Nope, im keeping him"

Seeing he has a B/E of 142 (According to freako) im thinking he has got to go. so here are my options:

'Upgrade' Broughton to Gram/Enright? (Keeping in mind that Goddard is in my MID atm, but will eventually go to my BACKS)

Downgrade Broughton -> Toy (if he is named, giving me Stanley/To in my backline and having Heppell, Otten, Duigan, Stanley, Lower, Puopolo already)

Keep Broughton and just pray he comes good.

Currently used ONE trade (23 left) and have $60,300 in the bank.

Backs at the moment:  Gibbs, Deledio, Heppell, Grimes, Otten, Duigan, Broughton, Stanley, Lower, Puopolo

Any advice welcome.

rewad this little article the other day

Another week of fantasy footy is over and the first glimpses of new trends and patterns are starting to emerge. One such pattern is the current decline in scores from defenders, particularly premium defenders.

Every coach will be cursing their premium defenders this year. With the exception of Gibbs and Gram, there is no premium backman that has been able to put 3 impressive scores together. But what does this mean?

On first impression, it seems every AFL team’s desire to copy the Pies forward pressure is affecting the defenders scores. No longer are defenders afforded space behind the ball to chip the ball around and accumulate uncontested football. Instead the forwards are flooding their forward 50, tackling at every opportunity and ensuring the footy coming out of the backline in contested. The kick-out zones are also getting tighter as the opposition no longer allows the short kick to the defensive pocket.

But can this be statistically proven?

To try and prove this theory we have tabled the top 20 defenders from last year and compared their 2010 averages against their current 2011 averages. We have used Dreamteam scores, however the result should also be relevant to Supercoach.

Defenders - 2010 Top 20 2010 2011 Change
1. GODDARD, Brendon 113.4 86.6 -26.8
2. LAKE, Brian 99.7 58.0 -41.7
3. GIBBS, Bryce 96.4 125.3 28.9
4. GILBERT, Sam 93.2 69.0 -24.2
5. SCOTLAND, Heath 93.1 87.6 -5.5
6. RAWLINGS, Brady 92.5 90.0 -2.5
7. CONNORS, Daniel 92.3 45.3 -47.0
8. MILBURN, Darren 92.2 68.6 -23.6
9. ENRIGHT, Corey 91.8 97.3 5.5
10. LOVETT-MURRAY, Nathan 90.5 36.3 -54.2
11. BRUCE, Cameron 90.3 64.3 -26.0
12. DELEDIO, Brett 89.4 76.0 -13.4
13. BROUGHTON, Greg 89.3 65.3 -24.0 14. MACKIE, Andrew 87.9 82.0 -5.9
15. DUFFIELD, Paul 87.6 63.3 -24.3
16. WATERS, Beau 87.5 78.0 -9.5
17. HARBROW, Jarrod 87.0 64.0 -23.0
18. JOHNCOCK, Graham 86.4 44.0 -42.4
19. MALCESKI, Nick 85.6
20. SYMES, Brad 85.2 73.0 -12.2
Average 91.6 72.3 -19.3

This can explain why some prem backs are scoring so lowly. Have a good look on the weekend at collingwood. the foward press has nearly two pies players after every back when they get the ball. The only team to get around it was richmond in qtr 3 last week by moving the ball so rapidly they cleared the press quickly. Teams will work out how to beat the press during the year so back scores should rise.

hence i would keep brougton cause i think he will come good

I"m still tossing the idea of trading him. I'm still uncertain what to do. But I wouldn't be looking at Enright as his B/E is 151 & has the bye next week.

If i was to trade I'd be going Toy or Hibberd. This would free up some needed cash as all my other rookies are scoring well.

sledgey7

they are some compelling stats right there. no backline upgrades for me for a while.

bundyboy

yep - nice work CFC  :)

to answer deekay's original question - I have some real issues with enright this year and think gram is clearly a better option (assuming you don't want adcock??)

high BE, hard draw and bye in finals, and not great form at the moment anyway...yes, has historically been a premium back, but enright questionable IMO...

deekay

CFC - you have sold me NOT to trade (my original decision)
      - I also remember watching the Collingwood/Rich game and thinking that quick movement is breaking their defence, hence from memory they outscored collingwood that qtr.

BB - Nope, dont want adcock, purely based that im not 100% he is a keeper, if im going to trade i want a keeper.

Broughton is staying.

thanks guys.

adcock looks so promising though, a poor score round 1, but then he's shown to have such good scoring potential atm, at his age it's now or never for a break out into premium keeper status. flower this is such a hard decision for me to make lol.

no guts no glory....go for it... !!

couldnt have said it better, so many threads on broughton and krak... yet after reading everyones situation and everyones opinions on different peoples teams I STILL CANT MAKE UP MY MIND.

however, im biting the bullet - saving the trade. PRAYING broughton will do good.

thanme

Save the trade. He's already shed a bulk of his cash. He may get worse, but it won't be that worse.
I'm subscribing to the theory that to trade him out now is throwing effectively away $60k. We're still only 4 weeks in.

broughton's playing a tagging role though isn't he?
