I agree he could go on but I think he might retire at the end of the year by choice anyway... I get the feeling he'd rather go out on his own terms rather than force the club to do it. He's still playing well but all it takes is one injury and it could be over :-\

i think that would be the plan in thoery but Fletcher plays a gamestyle that enables him to control his energy output. So his risk of injury is low and he could easily keep playing atleast another year. First 40 year old player? haha maybe not

on and on and on and on... and on... AND on... oh what the hell:   FOREVER

roo boys!

He hardly ever does pre-seasons, that's why he's able to go on for so long.

If you don't love him you have no soul

If your an Essendon supporter and you don't love him, well you can go die in a hole!

He will play a big role this week, just like every other week, and will be the player that will determine wheather we get smashed but 70-80 points or 20-30 points.

roo boys!

What if he sneaks into the forward line and kicks a bag :o ;D

I can picture it now....Essendon down by one point, Fletcher with a contested mark on the defensive 50, siren goes. Pies celebrate.....FLETCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH drills the goal ;D

I think his longeivity is helped by his position, doesn't have to do as much running as a midfielder for example. And he's still deceptively quick. Perhaps his light frame helps as well, who knows.

Alex7089

Yeah almost certainly. You rarely see midfielders do what people like Harvey and Tuck did. It will become even less common with the pace of the game these days as well. Players just can't maintain that level for that long

TheHanger

its because he doesn't train, well barely anyway. He doesnt take anything from coaches and they don't care. HE trains in a way that leaves him fresh as a daisy for match day

supercoach addict

Really? I've never watched him train. But if he doesnt do much of a pre season or train how he could still be fit enough to be play AFL.

He would train, just he does't take the full load if he does't feel he can. To him playing on the weekend and staying fit comes first. I myself think it is fine, if he can still run down young small forwards don't change a thing :-X
