Why cant...?

Why cant Harvey play Pavlich across the HF line and Palmer in the middle. I mean they're the positions the players were drafted to play, where they've played most of their careers and where they excell the most.

Pavlich's scores could easily jump above 100, same with Palmer.

Harvey is showerting me.

Also, Broughton didnt look up to it in the second half. Wasnt going anywhere near the ball, was left behind by his opponent on a number of occassions. Looks to me like he is carrying an injury or is under done.

Thoughts?

Pavlich should be playing at FF where he can kick goals

Alex7089

Yeah but when the opposition gets momentum he will be taken out of the game which is really not something you want, because Pav is your best player and most likely to sway the momentum.

Cicjose

but as a leading forward any half decent kicks to him will result in marks and shots for goal

Bluke

I think Freo need to show some faith in their midfield talent rather than rely on him to keep them in the game. In actual fact, while the work he does is good, someone like Palmer would be more effective. And Cicjose is right on this occassion, he would be more damaging kicking goals and dragging the opposition number 1 defender to him and thus creating more opportunities for Bradley/Ballantyne/Mayne

Pav should be at CHF not FF.  Pav has a big engine and can run his oppenent ragged if he plays at CHF, at FF his tank wont come in to play.

Cicjose

but his goalkicking will he doesnt kick bags of goals all that often like the teams at the top seem to have

(Milne has kicked a bag of 11, Riewoldt has got 7 or more on multiple occasions, Franklin and Roughead kicked 188 goals in 2009 between them,

Stevie J and Mooney have kicked bags of 7+ goals between them during their dominance over the last few seasons)

Pavlich rarely gets more than 3 in a game most he has got in a game was 9 v Carlton in 2005 (he got 3 5 goal hauls in 2010)

He needs help but i think playing closer to goal will help his cause

valkorum

I would rather have 5 - 8 players kicking 2 - 3 goals each than 1 player kick a big bag and no-one else kicking anything.

Pav at CHF kick 3 - 5 a game would be AWESOME.... then Mayne, Balla, Walters, Fyfey, Kepler, Hill, Mundy all chipping in with goals as well

Cicjose

True that but i think he doesn't have those big games when we are struggling around the ground. When we struggle to kick a score he doesn't command the attention of the ball carriers enough.

Going through the middle leaves us short of the target up forward we need at those times.

He needs to be selfish around goal when we are struggling.

valkorum

Pav needs to play the role that Harvey gives him.  Being selfish will not help the team

Cicjose

how can it not help Fremantle if he commands the attention in the forwardline Mayne, Walters and Ballantyne can be there for the crumbs

Pav needs to play the role Goodes is getting nowadays. Start off at CHF but swing into the midfield when required to give some grunt. He is a player who can drag his team forward and very hard to match up on, need to make the most of those qualities by not limiting him at FF or even CHF for a whole game.

Cicjose

I will agree with that when he improves his goal output

The problem with this is that they double team Pav and that makes it difficult for him to dominate.  1 goes the body against him and the other goes 3rd man up to kill the ball.  Pav (Roo and Brown) are good but they cant take on 2 opponents every game, week in - week out.

I like the idea of Pav playing a role similar to Goodes - start at CHF and bursts in to the midfield.
