Do you think...?

Valk and Co... Do you think Freo's choice of Subs hurt them this week? Lower and Palmer both have big tanks, I would have thought someone like Walters or Van Berlo would have made a better sub than Lower.

Also, do you think Palmer will be Sub again this week. If he is, is that a signal that he has signed with GWS. I would think if he hadn't signed they would be giving him all the time he wants trying to court him into staying.

I realise that inaccuracy probably played the biggest role in them dropping that game but I think subbing two decent players didnt help their chances.

Most teams so far that have started with a player subbed who is in their best 10 lost this week. With the exception being Hawthorn.

North (Anthony)
Essendon (NLM)
Saints (Drawing isnt winning - Jones)
Freo (Palmer)

Richmond in rd 1 with Connors...

Palmer was subbed off in the 1st game and started as the sub in game 2.  I didnt expect that at all, I expected him to play both games full.  Lower wasnt having much of an impact on Sat night so I can understand the reasoning why he was subbed off (although it sucked cos I had him on the field in both DT and SC)

I personally dont understand how JVB is even in the squad.  Walters did have a bad game but he is the type of player who can change a game where as Lower isnt.  Although the messed up attempt to mark on the goal line from one of Pav's kick is in-excusable.

You are right that our inaccuracy cost us big time on Sat night.  We kicked something like 3.10 in the second half.

Slightly off topic I think Michael Johnson needs to lift his game - 2 soft games from him is not good enough, especially with his experience.

Bluke

Yep, fair enough.

So the big question for me is. Will Palmer be the sub again this week either starting or coming off?

Cicjose

I would have thought that with Bradley playing alright that Johnson would be the one as the sub

Bluke

So everyone seems genuinely surprised that Palmer is the sub.

Does that indicate that Harvey knows something we dont? ie. that Palmer has signed with GWS?

A rumour I have heard and read on a few boards is that Palmer was made the sub for discipline reasons.  Whether there is any truth to that I have no idea.

It didn't have that effect on Cousins

Bluke

Well disciplinary reasons would explain Harveys reaction when asked about Palmer in the prematch press conference.

He should realise that winning the NAB rising star doesn't give you automatic playing time. He needs to do the work on the track and he will be rewarded. His desire to come back fitter and stronger after his knee should have helped his development in training regime

He needs to step up to the elite level that players like selwood and pendlebury have become for his development and playing chances to improve

If you paid attention to the pre-season you will have seen/heard that Palmer was one of the hardest workers on the track.
