QuoteAfter the game, Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade couldn't resist taking a swipe at Jason Akermanis, from whom Liberatore inherited the No.21 guernsey.

"He's the best No.21 we've had for a long time," a smirking Eade said when asked about Liberatore.

"I think what he's done over the pre-season games is what he's done these two weeks. He's just so consistent and he can win the ball. He wins his own footy.

"He has got a great ability to do that as well as his vision when he's got the ball. It's due credit to him. His form at the moment is really adding to our midfield."

Thats from Eade on Liberatore.

curnow and a bunch of the other rookies out there are no ipod or barlow. their not mature aged and dont have much experience where ipod and barlow did. ipod has been top scorer in VFL for a while, while barlow has been very good in the low league for a long time.

C'mon Mish, Curnow is a mature aged player from the Box Hill Hawks. He was cut by the Crows at a younger age. He won Box Hill's B&F after only playing the first 12-13 games and broke his leg. This guy can play footy and anyone that saw him play VFL would have picked him to start with!

Are you suggesting Curnow is the next Barlow?

I don't think that anyone can expect Curnow or Libba to be comparable to Barlow, I think he was a one-off phenomenon! However, these two look like the best rookies in this year's batch, until we see Mzungu and Callinan mid year?

I would at least get one of them.......put it that way, it wouldn't be a wasted trade in my opinion!

thanks for that quote bluke that gives me some peace of mind on getting libba in this week if he's named. im definitely dropping foley to curnow if he's named as well now. foley isnt going to make his B/E this week already and i think he may have morre of a run with role this year which is rarely good for dt. i think early trades are fine. if you have made mistakes in your team.. u reli wanna fix those as soon as u can

Foley -> curnow

Astbury -> enright

Nuff said.

I have an Astbury issue also. My thought is to T him for Darling (I have Tapscott) and bank the $$ for later.

QuoteEade paid tribute to the son of 1990 Brownlow medallist Tony, while also having a slight dig at his predecessor in the No. 21 guernsey, Jason Akermanis.

"He's the best No. 21 we've had for a long time. What he's done over the pre-season games is what he's done in the last two weeks. He's so consistent and he can win the ball. He wins his own footy," Eade said.

"The game is as tough as it has ever been and you still need to be able to win your own ball. He's got a great ability to do that as well as [good] vision when he has got the ball.

"He's physically not developed yet, to be able to cope week in, week out. At some stage, with this new (substitution) rule, he'll have to have a break but his form at the moment is really adding to our midfield."

Liberatore came from the ground with a slight ankle injury late in the game, while forward Barry Hall was substituted after experiencing back problems at the half-time break. Neither injury was serious.

This was on the dogs website. The section the Sun didnt report is in Bold.

Looks like Eade is committed to playing, even as a sub rather than resting him in the reserves.

bundyboy

hey Bluke...you're a gun!!

tks for the nice little bit of extra info... just nice to know the whole story...

but now you have made my choice harder....was leaning towards libba, and now swinging back to curnow...

ummmmmmmm ????

yorgis

tell me which rookie WON'T be rested at some stage of the year. i think libba has the best js of most of them .and if he keeps playing like he is, he'll make it easier for u to upgrade later

Yep agree. I wouldn't trade a playing rook for either Curnow or Libba.

Atley may have a blinder this week. Remember he played away in the west, a long trip and probably his first and then Collingwood. If he is named this week I'd hold him.

I'm trading hibberd though if he isnt named this week.
Lol Bluke I guarantee Atley won't have a blinder this week  ::)

swansong

what fo u think of these trades?

foley->curnow
atley->liberatore

+143k

Bluke

Your right, but he might have one next week!!! haha

If anything Bundyboy those comments from Eade steel my resolve to take Libba.

You read between the lines. What Eade is saying is "we think this kid is so good, and valuable that we wont send him back to the reserves for a rest. We will sub him because we think his impact on games will be that valuable."

That too me is a bloody good thing, and really sures up Libbas job security. That coupled with the fact the Dogs are playing GC at home while Curnow and the Blues face the Pies means it will be an easy choice between the two.

Bazinga

Dogs have the round 4 bye, so you would have to be confident that Libba wont need a 'sub rest' for at least a few weeks after the bye. Could be ripe for a round 10 upgrade to Gaz?

+1 That bye can only be good for Libba

But do you want to play Libba knowing he might be subbed?

Bluke

I doubt he would be subbed next week...
