I get that they are planning for the future...

I get that. But looking at that list now, its REALLY young.

Why did they on trade someone like Krakouer to collingwood for a draft pick they didnt really need?

To me they really could have used maybe 2 or 3 more AFL experienced players.

Sure they are building a team for the future, but if they go through and get belted week in week out, its going to ruin the spirit of alot of this kids. They will either go down with injury, leave for more succesful clubs when salary cap restrictions come into play (2012), or fade into obscurity.

Really feel the recruiters there could have nailed a couple more AFL experience players. Even if it was a Miller or someone else coming to the end of their career. At least get a season out of them so these kids dont get belted every single week.

I agree they could of had also Mzungu, Richardson and Bewick that would have given them some older bodied players

They looked really soft on field. Their inexperience was there for the world to see.

Dixon is their only target up forward, how are they to compete when he is like their JRoo, but without the experience? They really needed forwards and their defence was all over the place.

Don't get me started on the way they played at stoppages and centre bounces.....

Patience. They have Sam Day coming up also, and if Nathan Ablett goes ok that's an alright forward line.

They were NEVER going to play well this year. They only have 10 AFL players! Only 1 superstar, a couple of borderline A-graders...

Justin Bieber

Haha, just will take quite some time for that forwardline to blossom. I would certainly say to trade for a good KPP Forward to have right now.

At least they won't be alone next season :P.

Thing is with this approach, the talent in their team could lead to an era similar to the Lions (but not as good)

RiOtChEsS

yep they r all about peaking at a certain time bcos more and more ppl will come if the team is the best sooner or later is irrelevant...

Barney

I agree it could mean an era for the mighty suns. I think though we should have kept some of the pre-listed guys.

Hellopplz

This era may take a while though.... They really need to keep developing Key Backs/Forwards as they are certainly lacking there. Without them, wouldn't be much of a threat in the future.

Bluke

You cant compare the Suns with the Lions.

The Lions took the best of two clubs and combined it into one team. Of course they were going to dominate.

The problem I have with the Suns is if they dont taste some early success, and these boys get belted around. In three years time when they're still paying ablett a mill a year and what ever they are paying the rest of those so called A graders, their salary cap is decressed back to the normal rate and suddenly guys like Swallow and Weller and Prestia and Bennell all start wanting more cash, they're going to pack up and leave if their isnt room in the cap. So the Gold Coast will put all the money into developing them, only to lose them to other clubs.

I think we will see an exodus of maybe 2 or even 3 or 4 young guns from that club in 3 years back to their home states because the Gold Coast will not be able to pay them what they will be asking for. I really think that they should've taken a few more mature agers like Mzungu etc, and tried to spend a little less on the guns they recruited...

Barney

I would hope we have Ablett etc on very front ended deals to avoid a situation like that. I think that we will probably lose a few of our young stars though :(

cookie311993

they are struggling for some much needed experience but nobody expected them to do any good this season

surely they would have
and they also have players out of contract at different times
but imagine trying to keep all their young guns in3-4 years time when they are in their peaks :o

bunyip

They're not all gunna be stars though. And they will recruit more specialist players from now on because they now know where their deficiencies are. plus, they will make mistakes, doesn't everyone?

I think the Gold Coast are shaping up ok. They just need to hope that a handful of their young kids will really develop in the A graders. I think many people are confused in expecting that all their kids will be guns, because they won't be. The development will be slow and steady. Look at St Kilda, they had all they're number one picks in 2000-02, and look how long it's taken them to develop! Carlton is finding that exact same thing now. They are still another year or two away.
