Hey All,

I know the majority of topics on the forum at the moment are about who to trade etc, but my query is more in relation to the value of trading rookies.

If your rookie selection hasn't fired (ave. less than 40 for arguements sake), would it be worth using a trade to trade that particular rookie for one who is currently finding a bit more ball and, in turn, averaging a better score.

For example, an Atley or Buckly type for Curnow. In 2010, it was the ultimate spud Relton Roberts for James Podsiadly

Without a doubt, its worth waiting out another week (commencement of price movements -Rd3), to make a calculated decision regarding whether or not your selected rookie/s have the job security and potential to score well.

My view would be that with season 2011's structure, inclusive of byes- MPP and rookie selections are of greater importance, and a trade or two early on to rectify rookie selections may be a necessary evil, if said selections aren't spot on from the get-go

But, are trades worth more in hand than spent on what can be considered as "sideways trading" for rookies?

I was just thinking this! The Buckley-->Curnow trade could work out, and yeah, I agree, you have to wait until next week. Though if Buckley gets dropped that is one side of the equation decided....

If I hadn't done the Roberts-->Podsiadly trade then, I'd probably still have Relton :/

HaHa, yeah, I think Relton had the majority of SCer's on the hop around this time last year. Had he played his 3rd game, would've gone down in history as the first rookie to lose value from the base starting price of $83,700  :-[

With the Pods example, he eventually turned into a keeper for most sides who traded him in for ol' Relton. However, and again, this would have to be determined over the coming rounds rather than only on round 1, would Curnow be considered a keeper?

The reason why I ask is that 1 trade was used for the Relton > Pods trade, with Pods locked in at F6/7 for most sides. Trading in rookie for rookie, say Buckley to Curnow, with the intention of a "better cash cow" will require the use of 2-3 trades at the most - 1. rookie trade: Buckley > Curnow, 2. rookie downgrade: Curnow > cheap rookie (Mzungu?) 3. upgrade player > Premium
Or, I suppose the best outcome would be for Curnow to either turn into a keeper himself, or provide sides who have him with a straight swap with a fallen premium, requiring a price increase of about $350$380k

Burning 3 trades, you'd have to reconsider the merit of the initial rookie > rookie trade

Just cant see Curnow being a keeper for some reason so i just see no point chasing him and losing a vluable trade when im happy with my bench cover anyway hibberd is my only hiccup but he provides the swap with all my mid/defenders and he should play later.
