Nothing new we didnt already know I guess in that article. I just hope they come out and say "yes Selwood will play, and no he won't be the sub."

That would be just dandy.

I hate this sub rule. I hate that i'm having to try and guess whether i want one of my gun midfeilders to be a starter or not if he plays.

I like the sub rule, keeps things fresh :P

Selwood named on a wing Chapman on a flank.

seriously guys, Geelong wont play Selwood if any doubt about concussion especially under current scrutiny therefore I think he is incredibly unlikely to get subbed he'll either play or he wont and given he's named I'd be locking him in.

Selwood and Foley last week, was absolutely hating the sub rule by Friday night of round 1. Not sure it made much difference in those two cases though.

i would love to see these guys subbed but  i doubt they will be. The only thing i can see happening is the slight chance that selwood maybee a latewithdrawal, but if they fly over here i see them playing all game

Long way to travel if in doubt even saying I'm ok still a ? mark. Just my thoughts tho.

surely Selwood won't play as the sub... that would be Geelong admitting that he is not quite right.
And if something did happen (ie he cops another big bump) think of the ramifications.

If selwood plays, he will start on field IMO.
(ie he is fit enough to play, or he won't)

Mish

selwood as a sub will still get you more than a rookie does lol.

If I had Selwood i would be very worried this week so would make sure I had cover.

I don't think that if Selwood plays that Geelong will go into the game with the plan to sub him off in particular. After round 1, I think coaches have realized pretty quickly how gold and important the sub is. Its not something to be wasted, especially early on. It will bite you in the 3rd and 4th qrt if already used up on a pre-planned sub due to an unfit or not-100% player. He either plays the whole game, or doesn't play at all. Unfortunately (because I have him), I still think the later.
Im happy having him on my field, with Conca as EMERG.

I have a related question though. If a player gets an injury in the 1st or 2nd qrt, can a coach bench him for the time being and continue normal rotations 1 man down and hold their sub decision until later? Or does the sub rule have to be used on the first injured player? Also, same question, but relating to concussion. Is it mandatory that if a player gets concussion, that he is immediately subbed out? If so, that doesn't seem fair, especially in the case of subsequent concussions to other players later in the game, because obviously those players don't have to be subbed, because there is none left. In that case, if a 'non-subbed' concussed player is tested moments later to be fit (maybe concussion was only slight, or wrongly diagnosed), can he come back on. What a can of worms !?!
The sub and concussion rules are good in theory when considered separately, but when they are joined its just a mess.

Yes, a coach can bench him or send him into the rooms for treatment, and wait. It's up to the coach to decide if he needs the Sub.

But it's highly unlikely that they will play with 1 less rotation for long. Medical staff and/or the player will quickly verify whether they are able to continue or the night is over.

Again, it's up to the Coach to use the Sub. If one of his players is concussed, he can play with one less rotation, until he decides it is time to introduce the sub.

But regardless of the severity of the concussion, once concussed, slight or complete lights out, you are not allowed to come back and play period.

To  clarify your statement, if the 1st concussed player is Subbed, and a subsequent player is also concussed later in the game. That 2nd concussed player is out of the game and not allowed to return. He is theoretically 'Subbed' off, but no1 is 'Subbed' on to replace him. They simply have to play a man down.
