Selwood or Chappy as subs?

IF (and that's a big if) Selwood plays this week alongside the returning Paul Chapman is it almost a certainty that one of these two will be a part of the sub process (whether as the selected sub or subbed out player) this week?

I obviously want Selwood on the field rather than a rookie if i can help it, but if it means that he is highly likely to be subbed then i may be better off going with Swallow or Harris as a starter.

Thoughts?

Was saying the same thing today, very worried myself. God this Sub rules sucks Donkey balls.

they will both start if they play i rekkon..

Generalsor

I can understand the reason why something needed to be done but i'm pretty sure i hate the rule. Seriously though, really torn as to what the better scoring option will be if Selwood does get named to play

Generalsor

I'd almost rather (and what i'm about to say is a prime example of why i hate the sub rule) that Selwood didnt play so the decision was named for me. I'm playing a solid opponent this week and they have Selwood as well. If he plays and i make the wrong call either way it could be  big factor in deciding the league result for me

Chopps

If he is named on the field you would play him seems late 3rd is the time the sub happens if no injuries I reckon unless the rookie is on fire selwood only needs 3 quarters to outscore them  if someone else comes up sore first the cats will be forced to play him all game , I hate the sub rule most foley subbed for Connors you can guess my two players

Im pretty sure that the sub has to be named on the bench so if one of them is named on the bench Id be concerned. That said If they play they'll be on the ground but they could get subbed off which is the issue i guess.

yes to be selected as sub u must be selected on bench but u can always be subbed off halfway through game
but i doubt that will happen if chappy and selwood are playing well
geelong coach said selwood is fine so i expect him to not be sub or subbed
chappy is the one that has most chance of being sub i reckon but i doubt he will start as sub he might get subbed if he aint playing well

bundyboy

hey Bake...  is that actually a rule??  if named on field you can't be the designated starting sub??

so - when is the i/c bench named??  we might have some teams named thur, but often just squads named for most teams with half a dozen players on potential i/c.   so does that mean starting sub has to be one of the i/c list even if squad named days before game  ??

chaosAD

What a joke if they are named they will both play , do u think they will sub guns like this ??? No way they will sub camels not guns they either play or they dont simple as that !

Ziplock

connors is a pretty solid player and he started as subs, they might be subs just based on injury concerns, to ease them in. And no, a player can be named on the field and still be the sub (I can't remember specifically who it was, but it happened last round).

With all the media pressure about concussions atm (McGuire, Bell from Melbourne, etc) I doubt Selwood will make the trip now. With all this media attention I actually would prefer it if he didnt play, took a week off and then just blitzed it for the rest of the season 120+

Plastic Boy

latest news says he'll be picked and has up until tomorrow to prove fitness, but no doubt if he plays he'll either start as a sub or be subbed off....

Dont think chappy will be subbed in his 200th.

Last round lucas from carlton was named on the field and started as the sub. So no, it doesnt have to come from one of the bench players.
