Just want to know how common this was this year? I scored 2396 in round 1 for an overall rank of 999.
With a midfield of Swan, Boyd, Montagna, Pendlebury, Bartel and Bewick.

I was actually surprised how many prems I could fit into my team. I have a weak backline, loaded with rookies (but thats where the points are this year).
Goddard, Gibbs, grimes, mackie and otten, lower, duigan and stanley, toy and puopollo.
Rucks are Ryder and Cox with a fairly loaded forward too.

I would like to know how unique this tactic is this year?

The bloke who is ranked 1st in DT is also running a 5 man premium midfield...could be the go this year.

Awesome, sounds like I was onto something :)

I have gone 2 prems, Rocky and Lids, kracker and 4 rookies. Lids will get MPPed with a Lower type when upgraded. Worked ok first week, cracked top 400

This is just my observation, on the guys that have hit the top 1000 last year.

Generally, in this order of popularity

1. 4 premium midfielders (with 2-3 mid pricers in the forwards)
2. 3-4 premiums midfielders with 1-2 mid price midfielders
3. 3 premiums + got all the right rookies (rookieless forward and a lot of premium fowards)

In terms of commonalities, I would say pretty much all of them have Sandilands/Cox/Petrie.  All have rookieless starting forwards (iether yarran/knights/petrie on last 2).

The backline is pretty similar, most of them did not have Otten and went with Lower.

I am, but Boak, Cross and Selwood didn't really get the job done for me haha.

LiveTheDream

Went with Swan, Selwood, Montagna, Murphy & Pendlebury. Only poor score was selwood but the others more than covered for it. Finished with 2272 and could have pushed 2400 is selwood had played the whole game

Thank you for your quality post. How did you score this week and what midfield did you go with? At least contribute to the discussion...

I am in the top 900 Mr. Sheen and I went with a 3 Premiums/3 Rookies Midfield Strategy.
Gunz n Rookies strategie is the best IMO as you can fit in 15-16 guns (Guarantees 2000) plus some good up and coming rookies.
Also don`t need to worry about getting over-hyped players e.g Yarran, Everitt ext.

nice 1.  I think last years winner blue thunder went with 5 premium midfielders and 1 mid pricer midfielder!!

and only 3 backline premiums pretty interesting tactic imo.

I guess if you think about it, the forward line this year kindof suxs.

saying that Riolo is going to have a cracker of a year

my post got its point across fine. you seemed to infer that because the guy leading DT after r1 had 5 prems that it was the best strategy. i disagreed on sample size.

anyway, to answer you question, i'm running 4 prems (swan, boyd, montagna, kelly) and krak + (swallow, harris, bewick, atley) and scored 2360 with gibbs over swan as captain.
