Round 2 and 3 should be pretty close. Not too many premium mids in Adelaide or NMelb (IMO) who have the next two byes.
Round 4 avg is going to be very interesting

I'll lose Swallow in Rd 3. But as a general rule you are right. 4-6 will separate a lot of teams IMO. Will be interesting to see who makes double trades to try and chase the 1k.

its not like its a game where you have a pay to play.. its free to play so you go in not expecting to win.. so if you do win.. its a bonus. thats how i see this as anyway..

Intersting arguments....I believe if your not within 1000 points of the leader after the 5th 3 team bye rounds (round 19) could be in trouble. This is where the unique picks can really determine your success or failure as similar teams will not adequately bridge the gap.

For example the big premiums misfiring due to undisclosed injuries but continue to play for the opportunity for a top 4 spot or finals contention. However the fringe player is conntinually finding the pill and maintains a spot in the side. ie: blair

thanks for the responses and discussion guys,, the main reason i asked was because in the past i have only worried about league results(there was money on the line), but this year im actully trying for the highest rank(and ofcause the 50k). so my strategy will be aggressive, no doubt i'll be spewing trades..
my personal opinion is if im not in top 5k after round 10,  it will  pretty much be a snowballs chance.

I am 733rd at the moment and I agree with the comments that Rounds 4-6 will make or break things for everybody. In Round 5 I have a zero at the moment so might have to burn a trade to cover that if I still am around a reasonable rank before then. Long way to go though.

just to update the leader of round 1, scored under 2100 for round 2 and is outside the top 1k now,,, but still a thousand bucks richer then me :) ,,,  and with selwood in round 1 and now with jack riewoldt in round 2 (so im on life support) but still got a 2200 avg so im not giving up.

No-one can really say there is a certain point when you no longer have a chance to win it, especially this year just keep plugging away. Every year the winner has a few unique picks from the start that ecxeed expectations, and then later on with upgrades they strike it lucky with getting players that score well and dont get injured. My tip if your a fair way back around the mid way mark and your solely going overall then only upgrade to unique keepers rather than the generic upgrades everyone else will be doing.

just to update : after round 5 im sitting 10k, so done a bit of moving over the bye-rounds. i still think its possible(unbloodylikely) but possible..  rd1-21k,, rd2-23k,,rd3-24k,,rd4-16k,,rd5-10k,   really am gunna need a few uniques to start pumping out big scores, and take a gamble on a few upgrade targets,but top 1k was the original target and give myself a chance to win.   ,,so when is it over for overall?

I jumped 3.5k spots to the top 6k with 1987; the leader only beat me by 15 points. Definitely not out of it yet if you're in the top 10,000 if you get some luck and play your byes correctly. 800 points is just 16 weeks at 50 points a week...very doable.

Yeah grats man.....a massive jump...3k to 10k is a substantial difference...that round was going to be the worst for most contenders...the thing is everyone will be back scoring big this week..maybe you need to get some Girlong, Hawx and Dockers in your side?

yeah cheers bowyanger, well i have buddy and there isnt any other hawks im to keen on, but yeah im looking at some cats players (usual suspects) as upgrade targets.  i realize it will be harder to gain spots now,but being in the top 1% does feel like ive still got a chance.
