Joel Corey smart or stupid?

There is no doubt about Joel Corey's SC pedigre and that he was not fit for much of last year. His price this year and the absence of a certain bald Brownlow Medallist could provide huge unique upside however updates on his slightly slow pre-season build-up have been scarce.

Does anyone know how he went in the last practice game (I know he definitely played) and his current fitness level?

Thanks

Joel Corey would be a ridiculous SC purchase. He is DT only as he constantly butchers the ball plus he's getting on a bit and the old body is letting him down.

I can tell you Joel scored 55 in his last practice match.... However I don't know how much of the match he played. Underdone for sure. A pity, cos he is a star.

Simma I think you've been watching a different SC game to me over the years.

Corey's SC averages are as follows

2005 - 105
2006 - 98
2007 - 107
2008 - 109
2009 - 108
2010 - 88 (injured)

smart, I like it, def one to watch

I originally had him penciled in based on that same thought process you were running with:  He is a proven ball winner, injuries have made him a cheap option and he hasn't been mentioned on the injury list for the cats.

I then spoke to a mate who has ties at Geelong, and the word is they are concerned with his knee.  The problem he has is degenerative and there is basically nothing they can do to mend it, only manage it.   That instantly jumped out to me as a major caveat to selecting him, and I chose to instead look elsewhere... I'm happy to be proven wrong on this one but at the price it's too great a risk for mine.

As for looking elsewhere: Daisy Thomas is only $25k dearer in Supercoach and his graph is only moving upward IMO, while Tom Rockliff has just been added to Brisbane's leadership group and didn't dip under 100 in any of the Lions 3 NAB Challange matches (lowest score 114) and is $9k cheaper.

Thanks kid, I'd heard poor second rumours like that as well, I'd just like to hear something something firm.

As an alternative I can't help but want to upgrade to Lenny Hayes, it's nice to like a player, have faith in their SC scores and have a proven track record.

Cruiseon, firstly I was responding to the question at hand - he is not a good choice for this year's SC - would you disagree with that? Secondly, with the amount of possessions he has averaged over the years his supercoach scores really are just a pass..... Perhaps, I maybe watching a different SC score to you but perhaps you haven't really watched him play over the years as if you had you'd know he is susceptible to turning the ball over!

Simma I don't don;t want to cause any grief, I'm just saying that his SC stats are much higher than a pass at around 103 over the years especially when last year was the first he missed any games through injury.

My concern is his preparation for 2011 which increases the risk of returning to those very solid scores.

turning the ball over or not, if he scores well he scores well. efficiency is not the only contributing factor to a SC score

i actually agree with you. And Geelong were playing a high possession brand of footy during those years and he had ablett feeding him the ball on the outside. i can see him averaging the low nineties but thats about it.
