I won't wait until he plays himself into fitness and form.

I can see him coming in and booting 5 goals in his first game back, so nope i shall not be waiting. I guess it all depends on if i have the cash available. It's unlikely that i'd do a double trade to get him in though.

Ringo

Me to - Was hoping to do a straight upgrade of Tapscott or Matera with cash if I have enough.  That is why I was tempted to wait till price fell but can see your reasoning for getting in him straight away.

Is lake going to be a worthy selection? Or better looking elsewhere?

good selection for next year :)

ajjewell

I don't have much faith in him having any sort of an impact this year sc wise, especially after hearing that he has been dropped for this weekend, he doesn't seem to have a very good fitness base and it looks like he is struggling to overcome the surgeries he had in the off season

meow meow

^ True. There is a chance he will perform well in the second half of the year, so he might be the last player i upgrade to. But I will not be bringing him in any time soon.

There has been much talk about Enright and Adcock, but I have no idea why Murphy is still falling under the radar from most Super Coachers.  He just scored 100+ against Collingwood, which is a feat itself.

I have a feeling Murphy is taking a lot of the points from Harbrow, Lake and Gilbee , and if Lake continues to miss weeks, I don't see him slowing down.

I guess you can say the same about these others

Mundy < is he potentially taking points from Barlow?
Thompson < mcleod & edwards?
Dal Santo < Hayes?

Maybe this logic is flawed but I dunno, it does raise an interesting discussion.

ajjewell

I believe that what you said does carry some weight, I think that scores for players that are playing similar roles in a team are directly linked to their team mates belief in that players ability and fitness etc that is why Bob Murphy is having such a stand out patch at the moment, Lake is injured and with Harbrow going to the gc it seems that the dogs are more willing to go through Murphy then they have been in the past

meow meow

The loss of Harbrow means that the dogs have to rely on Murphy to bring it out of defence. Wood was earmarked for this role, but broke the ankle. Gilbee is playing forward.

The forgotten man in Hargrave will be back in 3 weeks, so don't expect Murphy to keep this up forever. Wood will be pushing for selection at about the same time. Gilbee might get shifted back, now that Gia has returned. They will share the load, and the points. One upside to this is that Bob might be able to play forward and rack up the marks and possessions across half forward, boot a few goals, and get some assists.

As for Mundy, i think having Pavlich next to him is making the difference.
Thompson has benefited from the sub rule. He can run out a full match when others cannot. He is strong and fit, and the limited rotations have taken a little bit of the pace off the game, so his hard ball winning ability is given more of a chance to be utilised.
Dal Santo is the same as he always was. Quality user of the football.

2166 in Round 7.

I'll have a bit of a "what if" session here.
If i chose Sandilands as captain instead of Ablett it would have added another 87 points. I still don't know why I did this.
If i chose Batchelor over Smith or Toy, i could have added an additional 60/65 points.
I won't mention Petrie, due to Matera scoring alright. And it's unlikely that i'd ever start Petrie over N.Roo or Chappy.

But if I made those 2 changes, i would have been looking at 2313/2318. I might have to start taking this seriously now, as I might have some sort of chance to score a grand. Higgins, Shaw, Swan, Suckling should offset some damage of losing the 3 Carlton folk next week.

Marstar

MM what do you think of Grimes -> R.Murphy straight Swap?

meow meow

I think now would be the absolute worst time to bring Murphy into your team.

Marstar

Yeah go on ... what's the reasoning?

meow meow

Ryan Hargrave is the main reason. He played VFL this week, so his inclusion is imminent. He is the designated kicker out of defense, and has been for a couple of years since all the attention goes to Gilbee.

Easton Wood is only a couple of weeks away from returning. He will be the new Harbrow, the designated runner out of defense. The role which Murphy is currently playing.

Higgins is back this week, meaning Gilbee might return to the backline.

This means there will be less dependance on Murphy to be the rebounding defender. They will share the load, and the score.

His most valuable position to the team is across half forward, where he is prone to inconsistent scoring, and added risk of injury. But it is impossible to ignore, he HAS TO be played there at times or else the whole team fails.

He will drop his average by 15ppg due to the inclusions of the others into the backline. He will get some jobs purely as a shutdown defender some weeks. Prepare for some 60's mixed in with 90's from now on.

Meow meow, I really like your reasoning and can't fault it. As a result im not gonna trade grimes to murphy.
Hargrave averages 80 most seasons and will take points off murphy when he gets back.
Cheers
