Great for a downgrade re Mzungu :) Bad luck though for freo supporters this pre-season though.

As I said in another thread - I dont think its cut and dry that Mzungu will be a downgrade target.  He was all the rage cos he scores well and was going to play round 1 (taking Rogers spot on the HB line).  Now both of them are going to be ready to play at around the same time.  They could both be fighting for the 1 spot.

so who is going to take that spot in the meantime? Suban?

That would be my guess.  This is my team setup for round 1

FB: Nick Suban, Antoni Grover, Alex Silvagni
HB: Greg Broughton, Luke McPharlin, Paul Duffield
C: Stephen Hill, Adam McPhee, Nathan Fyfe
HF: Chris Mayne, Matthew Pavlich, Ryan Crowley
FF: Michael Johnson, Jack Anthony, Hayden Ballantyne
Fol: Aaron Sandilands, Rhys Palmer, David Mundy
Int: Viv Michie, Dylan Roberton, Nick Lower
Sub: Kepler Bradley

McPhee to tag in midfield, Crowley to tag up forward.

Roberton??????????

He is very highly rated down at Freo.  Word I have received is that he will turn out something like Gilbert from the Saints.

I think he will get a go early on until some injured players come back then he will go to the WAFL.

To be honest after draft day I didnt think any of our new recruits would get many games this year apart from Jack and Lower (if he got elevated).  Michie, Pitt, Mellington and Roberts; they all seem like they need at least 1 - 3 years in the AFL system before they will start to mature.  They need to go through some pre-seasons and get their bodies bigger and stronger.  They all have excellent football skills, its just about getting them ready to play against men at the elite level.

With that said and our current LONG injury list I think one of them has an opportunity to play some early games.  Michie has trained hard and showed that he can handle himself during the NAB games so I think he might get a run until some players come back from injury.

Latest Injury List for Freo

Michael Barlow (broken leg) - TBC (last rumour I heard was somewhere between round 6 - 10)
Ben Bucovaz (hamstring) - 1 week
Matt de Boer (hamstring) - 1 week
Roger Hayden (foot) - 8-12 weeks
Joel Houghton (broken arm) - 3 weeks
Garrick Ibbotson (ankle) - 3 weeks
Anthony Morabito (knee) - season
Tendai Mzungu (knee) - 8-10 weeks
Tim Ruffles (knee) - TBC
Byron Schammer (hip) - 6 weeks

I think the earliest Michie would be dropped is somewhere between rounds 1 - 3 as he may be dropped for DeBoer or Ibbo to come back in to the side.
If he survies it past the return of Ibbo and DeBoer then he may get a few more games (depending on form) until Barlow, Mzungu and Roger are all looking to come back somewhere between rounds 6 - 12.

To me Michie is your typical High Risk vs Reward.  If he gets a game and can play through to rounds 8 - 10 then he will be a great cash cow for you.
