nuclear reactor blast.

okay I'll say this once.

Japan... most technologically advanced country in the world.
Plant would have been designed to withstand earthquakes.

It didn't.
They have had no control over 5 reactors at 2 plants.
NO CONTROL over a nuclear reactor in the most technologically advanced country in the world.

Not only can we not dispose of the stuff, but this should put to bed any argument for nuclear power.

It is not clean. It is not reliable. It is not responsible. It should stay in the ground.

Sad to hear :(. Especially how the nuclear reactors just added to the chaos.

I have done a few orals over the past couple of years discussing nuclear power (English) and I always saying we should use other types. This just proves why along with Chernobyl. It's is clean energy and cheaper, but the potential danger and the waste formed is just too much of a risk.

not just that but risk involved with any element is so great. if there is a war, they will be targeted, make no mistake... and who needs loads of big bombs when you can threaten a massive radius within these plants just by dropping one. its insanity and the only person who would say otherwise are those who have invested millions of dollars in lobbying and research into nuclear.

and idiots like ANDREW BOLT. that guy alone is ensuring the redneck fringe stay in a frenzy.

I am too saddened by the destruction mother nature has sent to the country and the people of Japan. My family and i send our sympathy to all who are suffering in this moment of disaster.

Spoke to my brother in Nagoya yesterday. He works there as an English teacher like Marcz's friend. He was home when the earthquake hit, he just thought it was just one more like usual... Then he headed off to work, then the same on Saturday.

He didn't know about the tsunami until sat evening when a student spoke to him about it. He doesn't pay attention to the news there...

On the reactor though, he is shower scared as he has done a lot of study on Chernobyl, but is going to stay as he has his Japanese gf who he won't leave. I hope that what the Japanese government is saying in that there is no worry ATM is true.

They do know the WORLD was at war. Do they still hold a grudge against Germany and Italy? To say it's payback and they deserve it is disgraceful to say the least! They did bomb Nagasaki and Hiroshima so don't they think that was punishment enough? They should really move on with the rest of the world and forget that ugliness of the World Wars.

My sister, the Japanese teacher, who you met through the window the other night Marcz, has still not heard from our sister Sachiyo from the time it hit until now.
Hiroshima (not affected directly) is the most lonely, desolate, sorrowful place to visit - it is sad to see that they have to put up with such travesty once again on this scale. A beautiful place, full of beautiful people.

:( its just horrible how many ppl it has affected even within the small groups of ppl i know let alone the devastation the ppl of Japan r enduring its incomprehensible really :-\
