So I'm a believer that there is no judging god and the earth will sort its self out.
So while people continue to complain about why they have the right to pollute and not have to pay for it, and continue to live unsustainable lifestyles without a care, we've seen this year just how unstable weather and the earth can be. This will get worse into the future.

Horrible scenes - again in 2011, we are mourning for a country devastated...

I think they just said it was 8.7. This is insane. This makes NZ look like a tremor.
Nothing you can really say.

Terrible :( Was a tremor here this morning but nothing that big... Sad thing is it's not over yet :-\ could become a lot worse.

My brother is in Nagoya. My father and I had been trying to skype/call him last night. He finally got back to us about 11:30 last night to our relief.

Never really thought he'd been in any danger where he was, but when I visited him in 07' we went up to Sendai. So sad to see such a beautiful place be ruined by such devistation :(

roo boys!

Glad to know he's ok Fletch :)

But really really tragic news.

This is just more terrible news during 2011. The earthquake had a magnitude of 8.9, which is roughly 25 times stronger than the earthquake that hit NZ, since that was 6.4 on the richter scale. I can't imagine how strong it must have felt then and how terrified everyone there was. My thoughts go out to those over in Japan and those who are worried about loved ones

RiOtChEsS

Sky News just reported it was 160 times bigger than NZ last month...

Boomz

My neighbours wife flew out only hours before it happened... very lucky...

yeah i think the richter scale is exponential

CrowsFan

Ah yes sorry mixed up my maths a bit. Each whole number is 10 times stronger than the one before. So an earthquake that records at say 6 on the richter scale is 10 times stronger than one at 5, but that also means that one that is 7 is 100 times stronger than the one at 5.
The Japanese earthquake was 8.9 and the NZ earthquake was 6.4 so it was a lot bigger than what Sky news reported it as

its shocking to say the least, id been worried up until i got home from work tonight and finally heard from my long time school mate who teaches english in Japan...

Luckily where I live (Saiki) is on a part of sawtooth coast with a big floweroff island in front of it, so we were quite undamaged.. I think the Tsunami got to about 50cm high where I am, basically the river went out then came back to a little higher than norm then settled down.. so I hear anyway, I was at work in the mountains when it was due to hit.
Thanks very much for the concern though and also a big cheers for the birthday greets.
Big Love and Peace to Y'all and the fam too.
Keep it real.

Phew perhaps i should study my geography a little better :P
