He is the most expensive player in the game at the moment, and there are others that can score as good if not better than him. Is he worth buying? Or am I better off buying someone cheaper and upgrading another line?

Sweenfury

Your joking right?

He averaged the most in the comp last year 130.2 and he is only 25 so its not like age is an issue. He will keep improving. Goddard is a must in any team mate.. Enough said.

Simple answer -> yes

The only way you get to that price and stay there is by being a gun. Therefore, he is a gun.
Who are these players that you say can score as good as him? Ablett, Swan, Chapman? ....they're all just about the same price as Goddard.
Normally the highest scoring players are genuine midfielders - Goddard is a defender as well.

Lock him in, build the rest of your squad around him, and then, later on, laugh at anyone who doesn't have him

yes youd be looking to 2012 if you dont pick him

Lapdancer

Yes.  You are off your 3KZ if you don't have him!

HotTiges

Yes unless he constantly gets annoyed like that little smartarse Melksham did

CuStArDaRm

Obviously he is worth it, dosnt mean you have to start with him though

He is worth it, but you can always have him as your first upgrade target. Must have Swan if you don't have Goddard though.

j959

simple answer is, he is worth it but i agree if you have Swan you can potentially have him as an upgrade target and vice versa, you can have Goddard and have Swan as your upgrade target ...

the only thing with having either as an upgrade target is whether you want to burn a trade when you can shuffle your rookie and midpricer selections to start with both instead ...

diddley

having goddard as an upgrade target is fairly hard to do, if he remains anywhere near his current price. it would take roughly 3 downgrade trades, of 1 midpricer (eg. liam anthony) and 2 decent rookies, over roughly 8-10 weeks.thats a lot of trades, and a lot of waiting for 1 player. and while you are waiting for that, you are missing out on a lot of good scores from a proven elite player.
(or alternatively, upgrading 1 premium, and downgrading 1 decent rookie. but to be honest, why get rid of one premium, just to get another)

I am not sure why everyone wants to follow the crowd...yes he is an outright gun..but have you seen his breakevens for the first 3 rounds ?? even if he averages 125 in the first 3 rounds, his price will go down...
So you may be on to something..wait till he gets to 590k

Though I admit I didn't start with Goddard last year, and it worked out well because I picked him up at his cheapest, I think you have to start with him.

Assuming he is in your defence, how exactly are you going to trade him in? The rookies would not have matured enough, so you'd be hoping for one of your mid-pricers to have increased? Or hoping for an injury?

Too complicated. Just start with him, save your trades (which could be worth the money he drops anyway).
