Jobe Watson - as a unique premium mid

Haven't seen a lot of chat about this guy & just had a couple of thoughts:

He's certainly unique, definitely a premium, very consistent, difficult to tag as he gets the hard/contested ball (therefore rarely has really low scores), but with - what looks to be - an improved overall team performance by Essendon under James Hird/Thompson/etc. (i know it's just preseason, but their attack on the footy is impressive), Watson could flourish even further...

He's just turned 26 (therefore in the prime of his midfield career), is the captain, & over the last 4 seasons has consistently improved his average: 88, 91, 102, 107 - could conceivably jump his average up to 115+ ppg...

I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts on Watson are a unique premium midfielder...

would be a very good pick, for consistency and a unique, but what most people seem to be afraid of is his rd 24 bye, during the sc grand final.
otherwise, he is a great sc player. i had him on the short list, but he was cut only due to the fact that i had what i thought to be better players ahead of him, ie murphy, selwood, montags, etc. but he was up there.

I would be all over him if he didn't have a GF bye.
Everything you said is right in my eyes, great player and you can't really tag him so won't go under 80 much, if at all.
He was great for me last year, and I think he will be good for me again next year.

Sometimes as with this year if you have him you KNOW that in round 24 you have to trade him. Tempting is it not?

ELLsendon

Had him last year and was a god.

If only he didn't have. Bye in finals

Agreed.  GF bye hurts him...as it does murphy and Selwood.  I'd look at Swan, Montagna, Hayes, Boyd, etc. for good premiums.

Thanks guys - totally forgot his Rd. 24 bye - shattered!! Stupid me though, no wonder there isn't anybody talking about him!! Damn byes - Grrrrrrr!!!

meow meow

I might take him anyway and just have faith in Libba (or whichever downgrade i select) to cover him in round 24. He could very well be in the top 5 mids for the year, and the unique part is appealing.

Only negative is Bye in GF, unique, consistent, average could/should improve, well worth it for overall win!

nathan11

he is in my team, if i can't twork out cover by rd 24 i don't deserve to win (have to make it there first though hey)

ajjewell

I agree a lot of people seem to be worrying bout something that they won't get into and it is a fair way away why not make the most of him then trade if u make it to the final

as I said ^^^^earlier above

I have to agree with Naste, in previous seasons if someone told you the premium you wanted to bring in at the start of that season, would be injured for the GF you would probably leave him out...Yes?

MTTY

Yeah he would definately be in my team if he didnt have a bye in round 24
