his average last year was 22 better than any other ruck.. that is huge. but can cox bounce back enough and will ryder improve enough to warrant being selected over him? it just seems like a really nice area to save 140k but what do u guys think?

I was thinking ryder, but if you make the gf you gotta swap him... if you can spare the trade at the end of the season. thing for me with sandi is, hasn't he had an interrupted preseason? might start a little slow? hmmm...

was also thinking cam wood would get a bit more time now too for collingwood or mcevoy for saints as even better bargain rucks?

okay update...

he reckons his body is fine but two notable points:

"Sandilands said the two byes fixtured into the season to cater for new team Gold Coast Suns would help him manage any injury troubles, but he doesn’t expect his ground time to be cut.

Fremantle is expected to utilise Adelaide recruit Jonathon Griffin and emerging talent Zac Clarke more this season to support Sandilands.

I prefer being out on the ground than being on the bench, but if means being able to play a full season then a few more minutes on the bench won’t hurt"

Your mad or your trying to be really unique if you don't have him. A MUST!

just to put it in perspective.. i could have sandi/gilbee/liberatore (on the bench) or cox/gibbs/polec( or gaff or bennel)
im probly gna lose 20 points a game between sandi n cox, but ill gain about 10 from gibbs over gilbee and then with my mid bench i would have a waaaaay better cash cow who i could potentially cull later on and add towards upgrading petrie to sandi if he hopefully drops in price a bit..

i think to rephrase the question, is sandi a must at the START of the season. we all want him for majority of the season.

MightyLions

He's a must all year, the best ruckmen in the comp by a mile..

Purple 77

sandy is a definite must, don't hesitate, he will have as big as year as 2010

thornz23

he is definitely the best ruckmen in the comp but i am really drawn to my idea. i think with what wes said about a couple of niggles he might be set to come down about 50k at the start of the year so i think im gna try and upgrade petrie to him after about rd 7 or 8. It could turn out to be a bad idea but i gotta risk it to get the biscuit.  ;D

Haveta agree. I reckon he is the best ruckmen in the comp but whether you have him from the start or after a couple of rounds is the question that must be asked. Picking up the best player at the start of the season is not always the best option, its to snap up the best players at the lowest price. Even if sandy scores his 2010 average (ave..114) in the first 10 rounds he will still decrease by 40 k, hence I personally think its better to pick up a ryder type of ruckman and see him soar in value and then trade him to sandilands between rounds 7-10. This was you could use the extra money elsewhere on the field and still keep an extra 30-40k for the sandy trade down the track. I might be absurd but i think thats the smartest way to do it...

For rucks I'm a pick and set type of coach. You don't want to be fiddling with your big men if you can avoid it, can cause all sorts of team balance issues. As such Sandi is a must for moi.

It depends on what you're going for. If you're going for overall honors then Sandi has to be there week one. His average points haul allows you to gamble else where (Say the midfield or the second ruck spot)

If you're only looking for the league title though?...Not saying no persay....just that the money could be used better elsewhere
