Footy God

Not name for the NAB, no news about it over here in SA. Not in the best side or being rested? Fortuantely all my other GC rookies were named, no other big suprises.

Yeh I saw that as well (posted in AFL section).  Very interesting because I am sure he is the 3rd/4th ruck in most teams.

will cause huge problems in my team if he doesnt get consistent games at GC as i dont have petrie in the forward line to cover and i dont trust any other guy, eg max bailey

Chopps

that ought to throw a spanner in the works

me

iles wasn't named either i don't think

a little bit unsettling but i'd expect to see him play next round, he's probably being rested or something of that nature

When asked who will kick the first goal for GC in rnd2 McKenna answered Trent McKenzie and I don't see him named either. Don't read too much into this, wait to see how the structure up during "proper" pre-season games.

Gold Coast have a few more players on their list than any other team, so some guys were bound to miss out. Smith is in the leadership group and Iles was their Best & Fairest in the VFL, so hopefully their omission means they are already locked into GC's Round 2 team. Note that Sam Day, Tom Lynch and Josh Caddy are also missing.

Zarts

^ pretty much exactly what I was going to say. Because GC has such a young and relatively untrialled team, they probably want to give as many players as possible a shot in the NAB to fully decide their team.

Personally, I take it as a sign that smith is pretty much a lock.

thatguy

who will be the most selected player this yr?!?! Z Smith, Mzungu, Krakouer, Swan??

Smith would be close!

He will play rd 2, barring injury.

caddy has groin issues too.

you make a fair point!  ;D

Anyone considering the leadership group appointed Smith as a 2nd ruck? It does open the door to the improvement of other lines  ;)

I think you'll find that Zac's played lead ruck for a year, McKenna knows what he's getting with him. Fraser and Gorringe are new to the club, and will be trialled. Expect to see him in the Pre Season at some point, and almost certainly round 2

Hawka

im positive smith will b the 1st ruck comne the normal season, fraser willl b number 2 and fwd

browny_wce

Why risk ur number 1 ruck on a 40min round robin game where theyve got good chances to make it to the 2nd round
