GCS had there intra club match today BOCK and GAJ did not play still a little injury concern there. This is what the said on there web site. Not to much info tho

A big turn out at Carrara to watch the Gold Coast SUNS intra squad match, and while those watching jostled for shady positions, there was no hiding out in the middle.

Despite the searing heat, Coach Guy McKenna was impressed with the three twenty minutes periods of footy.

“Through the sun and the sweat and the sunburn cream and all those sorts of things I think the boys handled the ball really well, crisp, made some good decisions and the general flow from the red side was really good.”

Those making up that red team are all but booked on the Virgin Blue flight south next Friday and are also the front runners to start against Carlton in round two of the Premiership.

“It was an opportunity for the white side out there, the possibilities to put their hand up and stake a claim for next week.” Said McKenna

Neither Gary Ablett or Vice Captain Nathan Bock took part in today’s match and while their injuries aren’t deemed serious, the Coaching staff aren’t taking any chances with both ruled out of next weeks NAB Cup clashes.

Guy sticking with his if in doubt, rule him out policy.

“Gary wont play next week, he trained the other day and just started to get a little tight and as I’ve always said were not going to risk him and Nathan Bock will travel with the team but definitely wont play.”

After months of preparation and three weeks of intensive match conditioning, next Saturday cant come quickly enough for the playing squad, while for McKenna and his team, the matches will provide strong performance indicators as they prepare for the season proper.

“We’ll find out from playing against Sydney and Greater Western Sydney what we need to work on, there is a lot that I am very pleased with, but certainly areas that we will need to improve in as well. ”

If today’s match and the support shown by the Gold Coasts rapidly expanding AFL community is anything to go by, 2011 is going to be an extremely exciting year.
