Ok, so i have roughly $420k to spend on a defender.  Who would you pick out of the entire competition..  (I have Goddard, Gibbs and Lids, Broughton)  I like the looks of Connors, but I seem to be the only one..  He ran through the mids last year and had a good score most weeks.

It seems like it could be a unique that could realistically pay off - should he run through the mids again.  Or will he be stuck in a back pocket and score like Nason last year - does anyone know?

tell me your thoughts.

Didnt he get a black eye from Cousins? Or is this a different Connors.

I have a similiar backline, I'm hurning it up.

dont know mate, dont focus to much on taking huge risks at the start of the season when you can take educated ones while its going.
Even if we all have the same team im confident I know how to play the game to pass teams who have better starts then me.
Last year I had Warren, Tippett, Mayne & Jolly in my starting squad all who failed miserablely at the beginning by i finished top 1000.

It may pay off, it may not, I would consider him but he's a little to expensive for someone with little experience and with the likes of conca coming in he may not gett that mid time anymore

see thats what I was thinking.  I have locked in Grimes at the moment, since the Melbourne Midfield is looking stronger - I'm hoping he'll roam around the back perimeter and fall back for those easy marks and disposals..

My team is pretty solid imo, I don't really wanna post it.  But I consider your backs to be the backbone of your team.  Id prefer to stack my backs with guns than my forwards.  As you said, your forwards can flop..  Id prefer to make educated forward targets during the season according to how players are going.

Do you think I'd be better of spending top dollar for Gilbert??  I have the spare cash, and I'm thinking he may be more consistent.

Look without knowing your team its hard to comment, but im going on who you have in the backs, Grimes would be a resonable pick. If you're going for league win however Duffield could be an option as well

browny_wce

Connors should be a lock.

I wrote a bigger reply but it didnt wanna work so cbf writing it again

Swallow, it really shouldn't matter what my team looks like.  I was just asking for opinions on who you think is the best defender in DT (bar the ones I mentioned in my first post).  I do not care about MPP for this player, just consistently high scores.

Browny_wce: I'd like to hear your thoughts on Connors, if you can be bothered typing it again..  I'd like to see why someone else thinks he is a good option.  Are you not concerned with the new arrivals in Richmond and Cotchin having a preseason..  (but then again, Cousins retirement also creates a spot in the mids)..

I'm leaning to Grimes over Gilbert.. Not because of scores, but because I have Goddard.. I'd think balancing your team this year could be pivotal, losing two guns in one position, in one week could really hurt your scores.

Connors is a good scorer because he kept getting some cheap disposals of the half back, he improved massively from 2009 up to the 90's. If you want the alternative pick go with him because he does post up the scores, I don't think the additions of Cotchin and Conca are going to affect his midfield time and his DT score, though the only concern is his behaviour offield causing him to miss games, like what happened last season.

Thanks for that, I do believe once a YOUNG player is caught doing something wrong, it could actually work into their favour - having being caught they have the ability to reassess where they are at and put their heads down.  (As opposed to the old dogs like Fev, whom see it as a way of life etc.).

Still tossing about Connors, Having Deledio in my backs, makes me think I shouldn't get him aswell.  Maybe I should just leave it there and not let it worry me anymore..

Grimes??

Don't get Connors mate. There is plenty of options out there.

Boomz

Grimes or Harbrow maybe. Wouldn't pick Connors.

Grimes indeed. Harbrow is another good option. Murphy from the Dogs as well could work.

cameron bruce! gun midfielder. should rotate between the midfield and backline. Which might also mean cheap possies.
