Nominations for the best ever Port Power Playerr:>

This is following on with Junky`s Adelaide version and I have decided to start it in the Port Adelaide section. You can nominate any Port Power player who has played but you must have reasoning behind your nomination.

The first 8 to be nominated will go through to the voting stage.

Nominations so far: Gavin Wanganeen. Warren Tredrae. Darren Mead. Kane Cornes. Roger James. Chad Cornes.

I would like to nominate first up:> Wanganeen returned to Port Adelaide in 1997 to captain Port Adelaide and won 11 Brownlow votes, but after his first season injuries conspired to minimize his impact. He relinquished the Port Adelaide captaincy at the end of the 2000 season which saw a return to his best form. In the 1980 season he was favorite to once again win the Brownlow (he finished equal second). In 2004 he won his second premiership medal in Port's first AFL premiership side. Wanganeen played his 300th AFL game in the 2006 season.

Prior to this at Essendon
:> Wanganeen debuted for Essendon in 1991, immediately finding a niche as an attacking defender. His quality was recognized in 1993 when he won the Brownlow Medal for the best and fairest player in the league, the first Aboriginal Australian to do so, as well as being a key player in Essendon's premiership win that year. In 2002, he was voted the 19th best Essendon player of all time in the "Champions of Essendon" list.

Warren Tredrea: Arguably the best CHF of the last decade, multiple All-Aus, Premiership Captain. Surely that's enough reason!

Other than Nathan Buckley who was a great Port player, I'd still go with Wangas. I know there is the mixed club debate but he came from Port and went home to Port to get thier first flag and I think he should qualify.

Darren Mead for me. I never saw him play a game where he was beaten, very Port Adelaide, dependable General. The fact he played on guns like Carey too in their prime says plenty from this dour defender.

Special mention to Rhett Biglands, who was just too pretty to stay at Port and moved to the Crows  ;D

Kane Cornes.
3 time best and fairest for the power, and 2 time all-australian.
One of the best taggers going around since he can rack up the ball himself and hurt the opposition

If this was to include past players of the now united 'one Port Adelaide' then since 1870 there has been some absolute greats.
John Cahill, Russell Ebert, Scott Hodges, Tim Evans, Tim Ginever, Craig Bradley, Greg Phillips, Geoff Motley, Fos Williams (who I obviously didn't see play)

Tim Evans for me out of this esteemed list, the bearded #5. 2nd on the all time SANFL goals list (Ken Farmer #1) with over a 1000 goals. He could win a match of his own boot and made me hate Port Adelaide more than any other player - because he was so good and damaging.
Scott Hodges very close 2nd. His season in 1990 will be long talked about.
Russell Ebert 3rd. 4, count them, 4 Magarey Medals  8) A true gentleman and pioneer of the sport.

In summary naste, if this to be expanded to include Port SANFL then I'd like Tim Evans to be nominated. (Timmy currently pours a good beer at the Strathmont too  ;))

pretty sure the cornes family deserves a mention :)

Surprised Primus hasn't been mentioned yet. Great ruckman and captain he deserves to be on the voting list

Roger James. One of the most underrated on ballers of the modern era. Tough midfielder who averaged 17 disposals over his career. One of the nicest footballers/blokes you could meet who could not be tackled and found his way through traffic like few could and gave perfect disposal every time. If only there were super coach stats when he played. He broke games open without any adulation - shame his career was cut short by injury.

My nomination.

My nomination.
Roger and brother Brett were both excellent cricketers too, I played against them when they were at Kersbrook and they could really smack the ball.
Not including past players from the Magpies naste?
