"Blues back with Kreuzer on track to return"
Source: Realfooty - Martin Boulton - January 7, 2011

HERE is the sight Carlton fans have been waiting to see; some fresh hope for a new year.

The Blues returned to the training track yesterday amid growing optimism star ruckman Matthew Kreuzer could play in round one against Richmond.

The 21-year-old former No. 1 draft pick ruptured an anterior cruciate ligament in round 13 last year, but worked through straight-line running at Visy Park.

As teammates endured a gruelling 2½-hour session in bright morning sun Kreuzer repeatedly ran up and down a boundary line.

The 200-centimetre ruck/forward would make his return to football just nine months after surgery on his left knee if he lines up against the Tigers in round one, but teammate Andrew Carrazzo shares the optimism around the club.

''Everyone's hoping for round one and if the way he's moving at the moment is any indication then he's definitely going to be ready and raring to go by round one,'' Carrazzo said.

Former Tiger Andrew Collins (who crossed to the Blues in exchange for Shaun Grigg) and Andrew Walker each won the speed and endurance tests in their respective groups at the start of yesterday's session.

Nick Duigan, 26, was recruited through the national draft from Norwood and made an impressive start to the year, along with top draft pick Matthew Watson, an 18-year-old tall defender from the Calder Cannons.

Carrazzo said Duigan ''knows what it takes to push himself up for selection'' and the rebounding defender comes to the club as a ready-made player after gaining senior experience in the SANFL.

Brock McLean returned to full training after hip and knee surgery.

''He had a bit of a slow start to pre-season coming off surgery, but his fitness and his body physically wise has never been an issue, injuries have let him down, but he's raring to go,'' Carrazzo said.

Lachie Henderson, who had hip surgery before Christmas, was restricted yesterday and football operations manager Steven Icke said he's now expected to return to training in about two months during the pre-season competition.

Carlton skipper Chris Judd, who was married on New Year's Eve, returns to training on Monday

* for more detail on Juddy, you'll have to ask Q who spent some time with him up in QLD while he was on holiday apparently ...  ;)

Duigan is coming along nicely and firms as a lock for me in both DT and SC as i believe there is an opportunity for him to become a regular in our side

yeah, that article definitely puts Duigan on the radar ... also bits about McClean, Watson, Walker and a few others in it ...
