Been a bit in the paper lately about Varcoe replacing Gazza in the center. He says he wants to play there so I guess why not? I always liked his work in the forward line though.
Means we have to find someone to replace Travis  ???

Wouldn't be a bad move at all. Has the speed, but he will have to increase his work-rate.

they need him in the centre (and probably roaming into the half-back from there even!) to generate that run.

that final against the Pies really exposed the lack of pace of Geelong and Varcoe was only one really generating any run from my vague recollection ...

PowerMan

Would picking Varcoe as a 4th Midfielder be a viable option if you say pick Mzungu in the forwards who may get MPP as a F/M.

Bunyip I like your faith in Varcoe, players like him need a bit of belief!

Sorry if I seem a bit ho hum about it aussie. I think Travis is a terrific player. Lets face it though, does it really matter these days where a player is positioned, half the time they wander all over the ground anyway.
I prefer Travis close to goals though because he has quick hands and is very quick in short bursts.
I think he was involved in our center line rotation sometimes last season anyway.
He may prove to be a good pickup this season for Dreamteam.

I wasn't being sarcastic bunyip! Was serious :)

Mzungu? Sorry Powerman, don't know him. But with Travis being injured, there is a certain amount of danger in picking him straight away.
We won't be able to ascertain his form in the pre-season comp unfortunately.

Would be a good unique SC option if he can lift his work-rate and gather a few more disposals.

Cruiseon

Could be a really good option for Geelong, the pace is the key. He really needs to step up his pre-season like Ablett did 4 or 5 years ago ( most doubted him then) but I just wonder if Varcoe is a ball magnet kind of guy? Still with Selwood, Bartell, Corey etc feeding him, it could be interesting.

Master Q

Kind of agree with Cruiseon. He doesn't have the skill for a Midfielder, the poise. He's got the Physical Attributes like speed and strength...

That may be true MQ (or it may not be) but he's young enough to learn. Maybe he could turn into a good all round center player in a season or 2, and still be young enough to hold it down for 5 or 6 years.

How old is he now. He hasn`t really gotten much opportunities in the last 3 seasons.
