Christopher Lance Cairns, ONZM, (born June 13, 1970) is a former all-rounder who played for the New Zealand international cricket team, the Black Caps, and is son of former New Zealand cricketer Lance Cairns. He starred in both the One-day and Test New Zealand teams, as well as the Canterbury New Zealand domestic championship team. Cairns also captained the Black Caps on seven occasions, usually when regular captain Stephen Fleming was unavailable.

He was described by Shane Warne, the Australian leg spinner, as the best all-rounder in the world.[citation needed] Cairns finished his Test career with a batting average of 33.53 and a bowling average of 29.40. In 2000, he was named as one of five Wisden Cricketers of the Year.

Ok thanks Alex for doing my picks before. I will now say why I chose them. First up is Charlie Macartney:



Macartney earned the nickname The Governor General because of his flamboyant strokeplay. Don Bradman said that Macartney was the inspiration for his cricketing career. He started as an allrounder and was constantly moved around the batting order so was not very effective, but after the First World War he became a specialist batsmen where he became one of the leading batsmen in the world. It was during this time that he was named Wisden cricketer of the year twice and holds the record for fastest triple century in first class cricket when he scored 345 in less than 4 hours. Macartney finished his test career with a batting average of 41.78, but would have been much higher if he had not been moved all around the batting order at the start of his career. A great pick for the number 5 position in my batting lineup.

Next up is Eddie Paynter.



Paynter started his career late making his first class debut aged 24, but he became a superb batsmen. Another attacking batsmen for my lineup, and he was also a great fielder. Paynter's test batting average of 59.23 is the 5th highest in test history and second highest for an Englishman behind Sutcliffe. Against Australia he averaged a huge 84.42!! During the bodyline series even though he was suffering from tonsillitis he averaged 61.33 for the tour, his second tour against Australia he averaged 101.75. In first class cricket he scored over 20,000 runs. Surprised he lasted this long, but he will fit in nicely at number 4 for me.
