Liam Shiels
Games: 6
Total Score: 282
Average: 47.0
Centuries:0 of 6
Standard Deviation: 23
High: 81 (Round 2)
Low: 17 ( Round 5)
Starting Price: 278,100
High Price: 278,100
Low Price: 220,500

Summary: Liam Shiels didn't have a great 2010 season, only playing 6 games and was mostly playing in the VFL. Has shown signs that he can perform at the top level, but has only played 17 games in 2 years. Went at pick 34 for a reason and he would be looking at having a big pre-season and securing a regular spot in the Hawks best 22.

The Crystal Ball:
Price: 249,600, 225,600 (with 10% discount)
According to last years magic number

Price: 190,100
According to m0ntys fanplanner

Position: MID

Verdict: Unlikely for me, while Hawthorn are missing a quality tagger I am not sure that he will step up to average enough to be a cash cow, or if he will get games. For a similar price you can get Heppell, Conca and Caddy.
Will you pick Shiels in 2011?

i picked him this yr and payed the price i doubt he will get 22 games this yr he may play and they may persit with bateman and sewell doin varuious taggin roles

oodmutler

Needs to spend more time with Box Hill.

His decision making needs improvement, along with putting on some muscle.

Too expensive for me :(
+1 he is too expensive for a player that may not play a lot of games, as well as being likely to be a tagger

Not for me, but he may not play very much because of the change to Bateman's position. He has kinda taken the tagging role after being an outside midfielder.

Hawks rate him very highly (top 25 last time I talked with people in the know). He has definitely got talent.

He needs to put on more muscle mass but given his pace they will try to get him into the 22. If he gets a spot this year though it will either be as a tagger or as the sub for some explosive speed in the latter stages of the game. Either way with his price, I can't see him making much fantasy money.

There is an outside chance he will play on the wing given we only have one natural wingman (Young) however this is highly dependant on pre-season form. Worth keeping an eye on although I still wouldn't put money on him being a contender for many teams.

Junktimer

unlikely for me.

but I will watch pre season

From the times i have seen him hes been pretty good but he is on the fringe at the hawks and i see better value elsewhere

He has been on the fringe but still very young and has a lot of senior experience considering how young he is. The Hawks are very keen to get this guy in the team.

That being said I agree with you in that there is better value elsewhere. Kid has a lot of upside but hasn't show a strong enough sign that he will produce it consistently.

But is there a spot for him in the side without injruies

hawk_88

If his form justifies it there is a spot definitely.

dylsta05

dont think he will start in my squad
