Everyteam has a great pre-season :)

But those two are very exciting. My favourite non-Collingwood moment came from Jetta!

Pretty bad loss for the Swans is a good young player

j959

that's sad news ... fantasy-wise he wasn't really on the radar apart from being a possible downgrade target.

looks like he's gone for the LARS surgery cos he may be thinking that his AFL window of opportunity is now??

ha, ha! ossie's comment from 20 Jan on "Every team has a great pre-season" - too true ossie, too true

It is a real interesting choice, he is only 19. And it was the ps when all the news about Malcheski getting Lars came out.
"Malcheski getting radical Lars surgery, ps we have this other guy doing the normal way"  (just in case Lars is a bust)
Two years later Malcheski comig off possibly his best season ready to fire, poor Campbell gets hit again. Lets hope he recovers quickly, is a very good little player.

sorry, a little bit old (from last week 2 Feb 2011) ...

"Swans players on the mend"
source: Swans official website - dated 2 Feb 2011

The Swans are expected to have nearly a full list to choose from for the first round of the AFL home and away season.

Senior coach John Longmire said at this stage of he hoped that all players, apart from Craig Bolton (Achilles) and Campbell Heath (knee) would play at least one pre-season game before the Swans take on Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday March 27.

The latest injury list released by the Swans medical department shows players who have been in rehabilitation, such as Daniel Bradshaw and Shane Mumford, are likely to play during the pre-season series, either in the NAB Cup or Challenge games.

The Swans play the Greater Western Sydney Giants and the Gold Coast Suns on February 19 at Blacktown Olympic Park in the first week of the NAB Cup.

A number of players who have had post-season surgery or been in rehab - such as Mumford, Bradshaw, Tadhg Kennelly, Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Nick Smith and Sam Reid - won’t be available to play on February 19 but will return progressively.

Ruckman Mumford, who injured his posterior cruciate ligament in the semi-final against the Western Bulldogs last September and then needed surgery, will join in full training next week and is expected to play in week three of the pre-season game series.

Bradshaw, who took nine marks in the semi against the Western Bulldogs, is also expected to return to the playing field in the first weekend of March, as is talented youngster Nick Smith.

Reid, who made an impressive debut in the round 22 game against Brisbane last year, should be available in week two or three of the pre-season series, either on the weekend of February 26 or March 5.

Kennelly, who injured his knee in Ireland during the off-season, is likely to fit in just one practice game before the season proper begins, and that is also the case for Roberts-Thomson.

Roberts-Thomson, who was one of the Swans most consistent players till he was injured late in 2010, is recovering from thigh  Surgery.

Campbell Heath was back at the Club yesterday, just a day after having LARS surgery on his ruptured ACL, and should only miss 12 to 16 weeks of football if all goes to plan.

Craig Bolton, who recently relinquished the co-captaincy, is in doubt until the early part of the season with a chronic Achilles problem.

Ruckman Mark Seaby, who missed most of 2010 with a broken foot, has been training strongly and is itching to make his comeback.

My summary: Just young Jed saying he thinks he's ready to play AFL and debut in the NAB Cup - bit of a fluff piece.

I just put it up cos there's not much info about him lately and the Swans news has been quiet ...

"Lamb, Parker to make debut in pre-season cup"
Source: Swans official website - dated 17 Feb 2011

THE Swans have named a squad packed with exciting young players including 2010 top draft picks, Jed Lamb and Luke Parker, to take on the GWS Giants and the Gold Coast Suns in the NAB Cup games on Saturday night.

Parker and Lamb, who both performed well in the intra-club match last Friday, are in a 29-man squad to play two 40 minute games at Blacktown Olympic Park, in the new round robin pre-season format.

Swans fans will also get a good look at Lewis Johnston, pick number 12 in the 2008 national draft. He was injured the past two pre-seasons so this will be his debut in the senior ranks.

The Swans will be bolstered by the presence of 2010 Club champion, Kieren Jack,  and the AFL’s Rising Star for 2010, Dan Hannebery, who both ran laps during the intra-club game last week.

Coach John Longmire said they were both raring to go, as is promising key position player, Sam Reid, who has had a pre-season interrupted by shoulder surgery.

“We think it’s a strong squad, and we’re looking forward to getting game time into the players and seeing how they perform under pressure again. They’re getting sick of playing each other in scratch matches at training,’’ Longmire said.

“It’s an unusual situation, playing two teams that we  don’t know too much about, but all we can do is concentrate on getting what we want out of the game. It’s a chance to see how some combinations work and get a good look at the youngsters.’’

Longmire is also pleased to have ruckman Mark Seaby back in the side, after a long injury break.

Seaby broke his ankle in round six last year at the SCG, and didn’t play for the rest of the season.

While ruckman Shane Mumford is still recovering from knee surgery and will miss the game, Seaby will combine with the Club’s other two ruckmen, Mike Pyke and Daniel Currie, who is yet to debut and is determined to make his mark in senior football this year.

Swans fans will also be looking forward to seeing former Western Bulldogs player Andrejs Everitt playing in the red and white for the first time.

Everitt, picked up in a trade for Patrick Veszpremi, looked impressive in the intra-club game, running off the half back line. He drifted forward and had two good shots at goal that just went astray.
NSW rookie Dylan McNeil, who hails from Albury, will also be making his senior debut for the Club.

New co-captain Jarrad McVeigh will lead the side out with Adam Goodes. McVeigh generally likes to come out last - with Tadhg Kennelly - so he will have to change his habits!

The full squad to play GWS Giants and Gold Coast Suns at Blacktown Olympic Park, Saturday February 19, is:
Mark Seaby, Rhyce Shaw, Jarrad McVeigh, Dan Hannebery, Brett Meredith, Trent Dennis-Lane, Nick Malceski, Dan Currie, Jed Lamb, Josh Kennedy, Andrejs Everitt, Craig Bird, Kieren Jack, Gary Rohan, Sam Reid, Ben McGlynn, Byron Sumner, Lewis Johnston, Jude Bolton, Ted Richards, Luke Parker, Dylan McNeil, Marty Mattner, Lewis Jetta, Jarred Moore, Adam Goodes, Mike Pyke, Heath Grundy, Paul Bevan

Shower! Eski has done his knee again!! Min 12wks recovery from LARS again!!

"Malceski sidelined with knee injury"
Source: Swans official website - dated 3 March 2011

Sydney Swans defender Nick Malceski will undergo LARS reconstruction surgery tomorrow, after injuring his right knee at training today.

It is the same knee Malceski injured in February 2008, when he became the first AFL player to undergo a LARS reconstruction.  He successfully returned to the field in round eight that year.

Malceski, 26, played all 24 games in 2010 and finished seventh in the Club Champion award.

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire said he was disappointed for Malceski but confident he could overcome this latest hurdle.

“Mal has had a great preseason and this is certainly a setback for him, but he has gone through this before and come out of it well at the other end,” Longmire said.

“Mal is very professional, has a great work ethic and I’m sure he will leave no stone unturned in his rehabilitation.

“We’d love to see Mal come back as he did in 2008 and have a really positive impact on the side in the second half of the year,” he said.

Malceski, who becomes the second Swan this season to undergo LARS surgery, following young defender Campbell Heath, said he was staying positive.

“It’s obviously disappointing, but I know what I have ahead of me and I am really confident I can work my way back,” he said.

“There’s a lot of excitement about the season ahead and I’m looking forward to getting back out there with boys as soon as I can,” Malceski said.

Club doctor Nathan Gibbs said he fully supported Malceski’s decision to undergo LARS for a second time.

“The option was available to us with this revision reconstruction, to use the conventional method or LARS surgery, and Nick was very keen to pursue the LARS surgery.

“The recovery time of LARS surgery is exceptional, at approximately 12 weeks,” Gibbs said.

i s'pose Rhyce is/was 2nd fiddle to Malceksi and is now going to have to be the big banana - he's gonna need some support from Kennelly and maybe even Everitt (who i wouldn't rate for SC).

yeah i thought even Mattner but with Bolton still not right he wont be as loose and Shaw broke out the year Mal was out avg 90 odd off the top of my head...
