Look, sorry but this girl does not deserve the time of day.

She has committed a very serious crime, regardless of what happened to her, two wrongs never make a right. I feel for both Nick's who now both have very unflattering photos of themselves out on the internet for no reason. Gilbert will be sacked. He has let his team down in a big way, esp his capt.

And roost, maybe your premium advice should be passed to this young lady.

Boomz

I wouldnt believe one word of what Riewoldt said they used Gilbert as a scapegoat to save the captain of their club. The whole story is flawed and obviously adjusted to sound better for them. Yes she's a nutter but theirs nothing proven yet so I wouldn't say she has commited a crime...

nas

Doesn't seem to get any better does it? Every day another media mogul story. Every where you look it's there.

roo boys!

I don't think they will sack Gilbert, but if they do you can imagine what they lose from a purely football perspecitve.

Master Q

Was flicking through stuff on TV and she's released another freakin' video. She reads this stupid poem saying she's going to release more photo, she says she isn't doing this for fame  ::)

You know something which I don't get, why don't they shutdown her Facebook account, that's how she keeps posting videos.

Boomz

No they shut that down but she's using twitter/ustream theres nothing they can do coz releasing videos isn't illegal...

Young people, too much time, too much money.

That's about it really.
Maybe if these guys have so much time and money they could go to a brothel and get a hooker who is old enough to have group se* with them, rather than taking advantage of a 17 year old whose brain is not fully developed and is unable to reason or make emotionally mature decisions yet. Maybe if the AFL/Stkilda is going to send their employees in to schools to promote their brand, they should send a few minders along to keep the players under control. It's actually illegal to have sex with a minor who is under "special care" in Victoria. Maybe one day a girl such as this might test out a r@pe case. Seems logical to thisnk that these players exert quite a fair amount of control mentally over young impressionable teens.
But as always the saddest aspect of this is the media which has changed recently from acting in the public interest to acting on what the public is interested in.

Agree 100% tom_scully.

It is very depressing on all counts - the players, the girl, the AFL, the clubs and the media are acting in self-interest without taking any actual responsibility.

Anyone know the "Prisoner's Dilemma" - it is a lot like that.

Not sure I entirely agree with you mate. I spoke pretty harshly of the girl earlier, and I think my view is mellowing a little.

Not a Saints fan, let alone apologist, but the School thing was investigated. The girl got involved with Gilbert because she followed HIM. From there, he's acted like a right goose, but let's maintain a bit of balance and not jump on any conspiracy bandwagons shall we?

Unfortunately showing a complete lack of character judgement about who you choose to involve yourself with is just idiotic, not actually illegal, as the law quite clearly states that 16 is considered the age where a young person SHOULD BE capable of making those decisions, with earlier reports indicating that the men she was involved with at the time weren't sure of her age in any case when she first approached them. I agree with you that quite clearly this young lady is an individual exception to that definition of "able to consent" but the law can't cater for individuals, it doesn't work that way - in terms of "Special Care", I haven't yet seen anything to indicate that she is under special care, or care of any sort.... indeed she's seemed to repeatedly refuse those services and has pretty much gone it alone.

I think the culture at the club certainly needs to be very frankly and forthrightly looked over and some heads pulled in, but this girl is by no means a victim either. As was very wisely pointed out in this thread previously, there's three sides to most stories - The club's side, her side, and the truth which likely contains elements of the other two.

Do we know what the truth is? Not really. Should we? I'm beginning to think it's none of our damned business or ever was. No laws have been demonstrably broken or allegedly broken. All that's happening is a bunch of people are behaving badly, mainly a few footy players, a silly damaged girl, and not a few members of the general viewing public (primarily the unwashed masses who actually buy into the unbridled retardation that is News Ltd "news" and comment on the "articles".

I'm pretty much with you on this one apart form the legal aspects.

Some laws have been broken. The posting of the pictures were illegal hence the court injunction and the young girl has been issued with a subpoena. Also, as far as I am aware, the normal legal age of consent is 18 in Victoria, unless both parties are within 2 years of each other in which case it is 10 believe it or not.

However they are not really important details. What is and isn't our business in knowing and following - there really isn't an answer for that. Ultimately though nothing of any great wrong has been done here (which is the point I think you were making). The player's haven't done much wrong (what they want to do in their own private time and space is their business). There is a young girl who isn't equipped to deal with the situation she has gotten herself into and clearly doesn't have or isn't accepting any support. She is throwing a tantrum trying to get attention and the more the media and we the people pay attention to her, the worst it is for her.

Couldn't agree more, this has the potential to derail the saints if it causes a loss of a) team cohesion, or b) sponsors

Thanks for correcting me on the consent age, I didn't know it was different in Victoria (I live in WA). If that's the case, then it'd seem the law's been broken. Posting picutres without consent against the law? It might be grounds for a civil case certainly.... I think we just saw I'm not too familiar with Victoria's criminal code, so is there a breach there as well?

*Sigh* Just sad all around really.
