Summary:

Travis Varcoe is the question. What is the answer? Surprisingly consistent year last year without setting the world on fire (going against his perception). Varcoe averaged a solid 15.65 touches a match, kicked 26.10 and averaged an impressive 4.24 tackles per game.

The question is though, with Geelong's form expected to decrease at least a little, will Varcoe stand up and be counted in 2011?

Maybe this will answer some questions. Varcoe's form against the bottom 8 teams in 2011 was an SC average of 87.89, and against the top 8 sides his average was 76.76. I've seen worse, but still. However, the damning statistics is that in matches Geelong lost - albeit he only played in 3 of them - Varcoe averaged 62.67

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number
Price: $438,900

Based on m0nty's fanplanner
Price: $417,900

Position: MID or FWD or FWD/MID

His price will be higher than it ever got during 2010. The fanplanner moves him from a forward to a midfielder, and that could well be the case. MPP a chance with Varcoe.

I do not think Varcoe will shine in 2011, I hope he proves me wrong.

Decision:

Unlikely for me. Expensive, and although a lot of people love him, I'm not convinced.

Hawka

He looks alrite however 2 centires isnt great and geelong will fall

Fletch74

Can't see him fitting into my lineup for that price, and don't see much of an improvement on the score either.

In 2011, i think Varcoe will play a more Ablett type role which will increase his scoring capabilities. But we will have to wait for the Nab cup to see how Scott plays him though.

Very pricey for a player of his ilk however if he is genuinely going to move into the midfield it may change everything. Risky though!

Knowall

If hes playing more midfield than forward ill consider if hes playing as a crumming forward id think id go with better options around that price

robpaw

Think i read somewhere that he's had shoulder surgery and wont be training properly til Feb at the earliest-?

Good research robpaw. That makes him a definite no as he won't be able to move into the midfield on a limited preseason.

ronl

Flashes of brilliance are too few and far between.  Injury or not he'd be a big No for me.

Junktimer

if hes FWD/MID 50/50

FWD Unlikely

MID No way

Just doesnt have that much scoring potential to be a premium.

Junktimer

ranked 11th in scoring assists per game

Boomz

As long as he is FWD/MID he's on my radar and has been in & out of most of my fanplanner teams... he's destined to move into the middle at some stage if it's next year remains to be seen. He's a risk but u have to take risks if u want to win :P

LiveTheDream

Certainly not a starter for me. If he dominates early i may have a look

MajorLazer

Not a very good chance of gettting into my team. Don't think he will rotate into the midfield enough to improve his scoring a lot.
