John Anthony

2010 Stats
Games: 7
Total Score: 414 (Ranked 441st overall, 115th amongst forwards)
Average Score: 59.14 (Ranked 401st overall, 105th amongst forwards)
High: 77 (Round 14)
Low: 29 (Round 15)
Standard Deviation: 20.76
Centuries: 0 out of 7
Starting Price: $398,600
High Price: $398,600 (round 1)
Low Price: $313,300 (round 21)

Summary:

At the end of 2009, with Anthony kicking 50 goals in only his second year and the winning goal in a final, it would have been hard to believe that Jumpin' Jack Anthony would fall out off Collingwood's best 22. A lack of defensive mind-frame saw Chris Dawes take his spot in Collingwood's 22, and Anthony only played 7 matches for 2010. Disillusioned at Collingwood, Anthony walked out where he was happily snapped up by Fremantle.

The Crystal Ball:

Based on last year's magic number
Price: $314,100 ($282,700 with 10% discount)

Based on m0nty's fanplanner
Price: $299,100

Position: FWD (small chance of DEF/FWD)

Fremantle have a strong developing team, and Anthony could very well compliment this - either as support for star Captain Matthew Pavlich, or maybe even down back where Anthony played in Collingwood's VFL team in order to try and force his way back in the side.

I think Anthony will get tried early, and his deadly accurate kick for goal should be great for fantasy scoring. Remembering though that his break-out year of 2009 saw him only average 75 in SC.

Most likely will be a forward, but it's not impossible that he'll get a defensive tag put on him. Only 7 games last year could also see him attract a discount.

Decision:

I'll give him touch and go. Fremantle have the added luxury of no byes, and a mid-priced forward like Anthony could prove handy, especially in the unlikely event he is MPP. However, he is very risky.

reckon he might get a go at freo.  MPP helps and i reckon he is a maybe.

good write up btw

Even though he'll get a go at Freo, don't see him being of much value. I think he will frustrate coaches like BBB did this year.

I've given him a shortlist. He could easily gain 100-150k at Freo is given the shot early.

They need KPP forwards to back up Pav and their smaller forwards, so I think he should play the majority of games. If he can get back to what he did in 2009, Think he could be a bargain with Freo on the up.

If you got on board for Adam McPhee this season (who would've done that??), then John Anthony less risky and more likely to do better for you this coming season.

If he fits your structure, worth considering ...

My wife got Adam McPhee, sucked all season. Then she traded him out. The week he scored 170+.

facepalm.

i wont write him off. although unlikely.

The idea appeals to me, both Fremantle and Jack will want to make this work. He should start as the focal point, one or two good early games and he gets his confidence up, might be a good cash option to trade out mid season for a good uprgade

+1 will be after him if he has a good first couple of games, but otherwise no  :P
