Isaac Smith

Summary:

Many stories on this guy, including....

History in the making?
Hawks grab Smith
From rags to riches!

Isaac Smith, a 21 year old, has the feel-good story of being a late bloomer, and in a mere "80 days" turned from a nobody to a somebody. Played just 3 games for his University side Redan, before being snapped up by VFL side North Ballarat and dominating the VFL finals. At approximately 190cm, has the ability to be a powerful line-breaking midfielder or leading forward, and at 21 could have the physical maturity to make a quick impact. However, despite his impressive VFL performances, Smith does not have that much senior experiences that other mature-aged players have. The Hawks have had limited success with mature-aged players, with the exception of Stuart Dew, in the past.

Brent Guerra and Stephen Gilham also spring to mind.

Those 3 also played for the Power

MajorLazer

Ben Stratton comes to mind as a mature recruit.

I can't think of to many mature age recruits the Hawks have made in recent times that failed....

yeah, in fact its quite the opposite, seems hawks know when to fold them.
Got rid of these guys at the right time:
J Hay
N Thompson
M Williams
(maybe)C Brown

Based purely on last nights game, Shane Savage is clearly a more complete player and well in front of Smith for a round 1 spot at this stage.
I, like many others, probably got carried with the hype and the youtube clips a bit thinking he would walk straight into the senior side.
Still along way to go IMO.

Savage certainly impressed. Don't discount Smith yet though, still 3 more NAB games for him to work his way into the side. As a mature recruit, they certainly picked him with the view of him playing sooner rather than later and he showed a lot during the intra-club match.

i have to say that i noticed Savage a lot more than I Smith - I couldn't really pick him out, that might be my eyesight or that he didn't do that much?!?!   ;)

He didn't do a great deal. Few flashing moments of brilliance but not much else. The fact that this kid is anywhere near an AFL game is amazing considering how long he has been playing. I wouldn't bet against him stamping his authority on one or a few of the upcoming NAB cup games.

Damoz Merry Men

His in my team, I have high expectations of him.
